Have my C220 for 943 km

I have driven 3 MB's: a 2008 C200, a 2011 GLK200, and a 2012 E200. Now I have the 2014 C220 since Thursday, and it's by far the nicest to drive of the lot.
It's an automatic - the E200 was automatic too - but when you set the agility selector on Sport+ then it jumps forward. MB has certainly listened to remarks about the sluggish behaviour of the automats. And the car's steering feels very much "in control".

Outside it looks much more sportive than my first C, and inside it's luxury. The Avantgarde interior is very nice, and I took the media kit and Burmester Surround System.

Some pics:

In the first picture, it looks so small.... But it is only approx 18cm shorter than the E class.
How is the Burmester sound system?

I had the Harman Kardon in the E200, and that sounded as the best I'd heard in a car. But the Burmester has a more vibrant sound.
I didn't catch that at first: I presume the car was delivered with default settings and the surround was not on. With the surround on the sound is fantastic. It should be, with 13 speakers <g>

The slits are just decoration for those like me that have no budget for the options like distronic, steering assist, air suspension etc...
For those options there are buttons foreseen there.

How the W212 compares to the new C...

Size: it's 19 cm shorter. However it does not show except on the back seats. Although even a tall colleague of me tried setting the front seat to his setting and then tried the seat behind it and was happy because his knees did not touch the seat in front of him. He did have to wriggle a bit before he was seated.
Getting the luggage in the trunk will be no problem. Certainly bigger than my first C, and not much smaller than the E's.

Performance: the dot in the rear mirror is the W212. Today I passed a lorry that was followed by 4 overcareful cars where I had a far enough view. I wouldn't have thought of doing that with the E200. The Sport+ setting on the C gives it a punch.

Navigation: I don't like the Garmin. I miss the Comand. It recalculates too slow, and it's not as polite as the Comand was <g>. But that might maybe just take some time.

Sound: the Burmester + the media interface with my ipod classic is fantastic. Plus, the sound of the engine is practically nil when it's not at standstill.

Comfort: I have the Avantgarde interior option and the seats are comfy & there's no feeling of sitting in a tin can at all.

Looks: great!!

I sound like an MB salesman. These guys must be happy selling it !!!!

I am waiting form my C180 as well. It has been at the export terminal for 8 days today. Will probably take 2 weeks until i have the car.
I went with Garmin instead of the COMAND this time. Always had the comand, but COMAND costs more than it tastes.
When CarPlay from Apple is available, then we can probably just use apple maps instead....

I wish the more basic models and frugal engines were available here in Canada without all the options added, but attitudes are different here.

I love the cloth seats - we cannot get those here, sadly.

I didn't know MB had different options overseas. I assumed the States like the bigger engines - at the fuel price over here we don't. But I'm surprised that the inside options are different too.

Btw, it's not 'full' cloth, it's half leather. Quite nice, actually. All my previous cars had full leather but I like this one ;-)

The interior options are the same, but not everything is available, while other options in Europe are standard here, at a price of course. Cloth seats are not available in any Mercedes here, not even the CLA or B-class.

i made a topic here asking about the 7 inch screen vs. the 8.4 inch screen. i see here you have the 7 inch screen. can you please tell me what the main differences are? 1.4 inches is not that big of a difference, so what else is there? is the resolution lower? are the graphics not as good?

why should i get the 8.4inch screen over the 7 inch? here in the US it is a $2700 package which comes with comand navigation, rear view camera, sirius traffic and weather, and the 8.4in display.

the traffic/weather thing is not necessary for me, and the rear view camera can be added individually. that leaves the larger screen and the comand navigation. can you or anybody tell me if its worth $2700 for a slightly larger screen and the comand navigation. what is so special about those 2 features. thanks.

Slits above headlight switch have a very usefull purpose

The slits are not only for decoration but in fact extremely practical. They have the exact width of a credit card and about 2/3 of the depth!

I use it to store the parking access card at my office and the card I use for our local car wash.

So ... I believe the slits are intended for this purpose. Sadly it is not documented anywhere.

One of my colleagues thought they were plastic covers. I agree, these are the standard aluminium's over here and they are not that spectacular. Although I hate spending budget on the wheels (I don't take 18") in this case I should have done so.

Carplay is not available yet as far as I know, and you will need COMAND for it. No, I have the connections for iPod over USB. This should become a standard IMHO, and handsfree phone as well. It isn't a real luxury anymore.

Thanks for posting pictures here and the car looks great. But I do agree the wheels can use an upgrade.

Wow I can't believe they put those wheels on there :/

In about 6 months you'll probably see loads of 18" alloys on the market as people replace their stock ones for aftermarket ones. Might be worth picking some up then.
