It's just my opinion but I think you loose some of your negotiation power when you are ordering a car to your specs. Whereas when there is a car in their inventory that they could potentially loose on, you are in the negotiation driver's seat. I felt comfortable preordering because my work has a feet discount arranged for dealer cost plus 5%....roughly 5% off MRSP which the dealer said they would honor before the MRSP was released.

I agree... Although I've ordered a car to my specs...I may choose to add or remove some options...heck I may even select a different color...with all those variables in play there's no way to negotiate. And you're right the dealership has an incentive to "move" the car once it's on the lot. It looks like you're already getting a good deal...I think that's what I'll shoot for once it arrives...I'm expecting a late September delivery...my build date was August 2nd.

This. My parents, for instance, won't get anything else but an MB. I don't even know if they bother to test drive cars anymore (esp since they lease the same model over and over again). I'm pretty sure this isn't that uncommon, esp w/ people who can afford a luxury car....

I negotiated a discount before I even placed an order at my dealer (on a different MB). You can really do anything you want but I found that I have much more leverage to get dealers to bid against each other before I commit to the order so I can get a lower price vs. wait for your ordered car to come in then talk dollars.

I don't think we'll be discounting more than say $500-1000 off new C's...if that...But again, it's all about location and dealership, etc.

How would this discount compare to Costco or Penfed or Amex buying service ?

Got a message from one of the local dealers in LA saying they have no plan on giving any discount at this time but are nice enough to not put any markup on the car. LOL.
