Consumer Reports first impressions

I'm under the impression that Consumer Reports doesn't necessarily provide the most, er, popular opinion for readers on this forum, but their ratings usually come way closer to my own feelings than any other US car mag.

They seem to REALLY like the new C-class (at least, so far):

Im not much of a fan of Consumer Reports. If you have seen any of their video reviews on youtube, the presenter they have is also so passionless and I get the feeling he really doesn't know much about cars.

They're definitely robotic. Have you watched the reviews of them chatting w/ each other? IMO, it becomes clear from those conversations that they're pretty knowledgeable.... They just aren't as obnoxious about it as many of the writers from the major car mags.

Besides, they also talk about things like visibility (which is hugely important to me but seldom mentioned by mainstream mags).

They did comment that the 4 cylinder's engine sound seemed out of place for a car of this caliber which has been commented on these forums and honestly I drove a '14 A4 today and thought it was more refined in that regard and the interior is pretty nice as well just no longer the leader. The A4's ride didn't seem as good.

I've never test-driven an Audi. I wouldn't be surprised if their 4-cyl is smoother. Audis in the past haven't had the ride quality of a Mercedes, but my understanding is that the current A6 is a significant improvement. I'd be surprised if the next A4 also didn't make a big leap in that area....
