Door Locks

Hi,
Is it possible to have the doors lock automatically, if when I leave the vehicle I forget to touch the sensor. On a few occasions I have returned to my car and it is unlocked, obviously I have forgotten to lock it.

No. You must lock it manually by either touching a door handle or using the fob.

I've had cars that offered auto locking and always disabled that feature. I did not like the car locking itself every time I got out of the car for any reason ... like getting gas.

Smile Door locks

Thank you sir,

It might be because I have the Key-Less function,I've forgotten to lock the doors manually. As the key is in my pocket I don"t have it in my hand as a reminder, perhaps it's an age thing

It's actually a really slick system, and very easy to get used to. I prefer it to any of the other keyless systems I've used. You do have to remember to lock it though ... ;-)

I always look to see the mirrors folding to confirm it's locked.

If you have the MBrace app on your phone, you can lock and unlock it remotely. I'm using the free trial for 3 months.

my other car that's few years older, 1/3 of the price comes with the autolock feature, and I've got used to it. Dealer tells me that MB doesn't do that.

Almost 20 years ago, I installed a really high-end audio system in my Mazda Protegé. Then I installed a high-end after-market alarm system to protect it. The installer recommended that I disable the automatic locking feature. He told a sad story about a customer who stopped on his way to a funeral to get gas (just as you imagined). The alarm system locked him out of the car, and he didn't make it to the funeral. So I followed his advice.

The only reason I mentioned that custom audio system was to give myself an excuse to compare that sound system with the Burmester system in my C300. That system in my Mazda replaced all the OEM components with the best car audio brands. It had a four-channel outboard amplifier and a 2.3 cubic foot base box in the trunk. The bass box had a 10" woofer with its own amplifier. I was really into organ music then. Twice, a very low but very soft organ note had me convinced there was something wrong with the car itself - the whole car was shaking! After a few years of trading up and swapping components around, the final tune was done by one of the best-known car audio specialists in the country.

The point of this hype is to show how good the Burmester system is. The Burmester system is much better in every area except, probably, bass. (I haven't tested the Burmester system with organ music, and the car is in the shop for two weeks to get hail damage repaired.) But bass of the Burmester system is more than good enough for normal symphony orchestra music.

If you have Comand Online in the UK, you have three years free access to the service - Mercedes Me.

A properly designed autolock suppose to work the way an average person intend it. When you get out of the car to pump gas, it is NOT suppose to lock. How does it know? proximity sensor.

the mazda i have chirps once when you exit the car with the key fob, when you are more than 3 feet away from the car, it chirps one more time and locks the car.

when i get gas, i usually leave the key in the car. the car never locks. if I want to go in the store to buy lottery tickets or a six pack, I take the key with me, and the car faithfully locks itself. It simply works.

because I know the proximity sensor's distance, sometimes when want to get out of the driver side to go to the passenger side to grab something before exiting the car, I simply walk very close to the car the entire time. it sometimes warn as if i am outside the car, most of the time, it doesn't even warn. but when I walk away it does lock.

The only time the system is disabled is when i walk away with the car key, while wife is slowly getting out of the car. As it can't arm while a door is open, as long as you get used to this, you know to wait for the wife then lock.

this is may seem complicated, but I actually enjoy it over my other car that doesn't have this feature, needless to say, I was sort of hoping for the same with the merc...

Regarding door lock, is it normal that when you pull on the door handle from the inside while it's lock that it unlocks automatically and opens the door? Isn't this a safety issue? If it's not normal is there a way to disable it? Thanks.

Quite normal - just the same as every other car.

You can set child locks in the rear, but front doors always open to ensure egress from the car - imagine the car caught fire, you would not want to pull the handles and nothing happen, would you?

I know the car locks auto unlock in an accident, but not all emergencies involve a collision.
