CPO Discount?

So I know this question is a bit premature given that the car just came out, but I am wondering what % off MSRP a one year old C300 with 10,000 miles would likely be. I'm coming from Lexus where buying a one year old car doesn't make much sense because they depreciate so slowly, but I think with Mercedes it's different. I'm looking at a car with an MSRP of about $52,000...would it be under $40k in a year?

Not a chance.

MB hold down their value pretty well, particularly in the long run. My guess is I wouldn't expect more that 10% the first year and then diminishing % after that. If it were a Cadillac that would be an entirely different story.

Thanks. But people are already getting 10-13% off for a new car. Are you saying an additional 10% since it's used, for a total of 20-25% off MSRP? That would get it close to $40k.

Unless you live in an area with multiple Mercedes dealers I wouldn't count on big discounts either. Its a brand new model expected to sell very well. As you have read here, essentially every one is ordering since most dealers have very few cars on their lots. My dealer had one for sale and one for punishment and I bet that true for most midsize and small dealers. You can probably get that 25% you're looking for on a CPO dealer tester but that's going to be it. To put sales in perspective the steering recall involves 10000 cars in the US, that was about a week ago. I wouldn't be surprised if sales are picking up quite a bit too since there is a slew of advertising, and the universally superb reviews. Even other manufacturer fan websites are raving positive about the car!

In LA you would be able to get a one year old C300 for around 40k-$42k I'd imagine. With a sticker of $52k my local dealer would sell that car for $47ish now.... you'll easily see $5k + in depreciation off purchase price over the first 10k miles in a C Class.

Recently bought a 2014 C350 COUPE (CPO) Loaded @ $51,600 msrp. Had 6,300 mi. on it. Bought for $39,800. Approx 23% off. Was dealer loaner car only 6 mos. old. Have had it for 4 mos. now. Great car-never been back to the dealer. Got 4 1/2 yr warranty and unlimited miles. Better than a new car all around.

Recently retired from working for a high end dealer for 12 yrs. Not MB dealer. It looks like a preowned car has about 20% profit margin built into the asking price.

Thanks, that is a great value, especially when you consider the extra year's warranty included.

Now the real question is do I have the patience to wait 6-12 months for a CPO
