First snow and ice ....
The car was literally encased in ice, and I really wondered if the touch door handles, the folding mirrors, and the fuel door would even work. They did. The door handles were covered in ice, but they responded normally when I touched them. The folding mirrors opened, albeit with a bit of a crunch. Fuel door popped right open.
After a bit of scraping, the car was fine and I drove right off. BTW, the rear defroster worked well and had the rear window and side mirrors clear very quickly. The windows were frozen shut, but that's to be expected.
Wednesday I get my recalled Continental front tires replaced. Next stop after that is my local tire shop, where I have a set of new Goodyear snows waiting to be installed.
I recommend you don't fold your mirrors if frozen precipitation is in the forecast, just a way to avoid a breakdown. You can turn the auto folding mirror off in the system. Last week I had to drive 4hrs on a 2 lane wooded rural highway with snow coming down at over an inch an hour!! Luckily my F150 already had her Blizzaks on!
The recall will be done this week and I'll get my snows on ASAP.
