SOS button

Hi all,

I would be interested to read some experience of people having used the SOS button for calling Mercedes in case of accident, failure, etc, especially in difficult situations (for example in a hard snowy road).

Regards.

I would be interested in this too... I have the C400 in Canada, and haven't seen that SOS button... Is this only in the US?

C400
Actually I don't know.
I ordered the C400 for Switzerland, and it seems that in Europe this button is in the center of the roof.

I'll let you know soon...I've almost accidentally pressed it a few times as I reach for my sunglasses in the overhead compartment.

Poorly placed location, IMO.

In the U.S. (according to the manual) there is a cover your must open to press the button behind that cover, so it can't be accidently pressed.

That's correct and I've accidentally opened it on a few occasions...I've also accidentally pressed the button to connect me with an mbrace rep. I was startled as I was exiting the vehicle. You'd think I'm hopelessly incompetent to operate a car but I swear those buttons aren't in a good location...I guess it'd be fine if it weren't for the sunglass holders proximity.

Early this year...middle of nowhere (two hundred miles north of Montreal)....-25F ...crash,I rear ended a pickup truck stopped at a light.Airbag, stunned and confused.About 20 seconds later I hear a voice say "Mr Listerone, are you hurt?" Still stunned,I didn't respond.A few seconds later "Mr Listerone, are you hurt?" again.Long story short they knew exactly where I was and sent an ambulance.Turns out I wasn't badly hurt...just a few scratches, probably because I was only doing about 7mph.

I'm a big believer in OnStar/mBrace/BMW Assist.I'll never again be without it for the emergency medical assistance alone.

I wonder if you are touching the "Roadside Assistance" button rather than the SOS.

That's a very nice feature for sure. I don't think we get the option in Australia, which strikes me as odd on such a premium brand. A family friend has the same feature on their Toyota and even Ford has it on some of their newer vehicles here.

It's underneath a red cover that once pressed exposes a button, that's all I remember. It's -3 here right now so I'm not going outside to check.

I've pressed the SOS button twice and the roadside assist button once, trying to get my sunglasses. I thought I could get it by feel and that was not a good decision.
The SOS button has a cover over the red button. You can flip the cover open to press the button or press the cover so it presses the button, either way will work.
I wish the cover would be work differently and prevent accidental button presses so now I put my sunglasses in the center console.

I looked this morning and it was definitely the SOS button I've pressed a couple of times along with the button to the right ot it. Oh well, I'll be more careful in the future.
