Rear Seat Belt Warning
I'm just entering my 3rd week of W205 ownership and so far, I'm more than pleased with the car.
The only small issue I've noticed is that every time I start the car and pull away, I get a "rear set belts not fastened" warning on the dash. It vanishes after a few seconds. This is happening even when there are no passengers in the rear seats.
I'm not sure if its as intended or a small glitch. Has anyone else noticed this?

I noticed this on my new s205 today. Last night I had the seats down as I was fitting a boot liner to keep the car from being messed up by my dogs. This morning I saw the belt warning and wondered if something had gone wrong with the rear seat belt/occupancy sensors. But then I figured it would bong like mad if it thought there was someone there while driving and unbuckled.
I've just read the manual however and this points to a fault because it shouldn't show unless;
The seats are occupied and you drive over 10kph. Someone unbuckles the belt while in motion. Someone gets in or out while the engine is running and you pull away again.

That's what I'm confused about. I've had the car a week and never noticed this. Today however, after folding seats and messing around in the car to fit the boot lining material, I see it. Could be co-incidence but why tell me unless there's someone sat there. Even the other half's toyota doesn't say anything unless it detects someone in the seat. This would indicate, if its not a fault, that MB don't put occupancy sensors in the rear seat and that they're telling you to check in case someone is sat there. A bit poor if that's the case.

I am patiently waiting for my s205, ordered january expected mid may sigh.....
But i have spent hours looking at forums and have also downloaded the online manual app so i will be prepared when the car is finally delivered. I am currently driving a c220 cdi 4matic glk x204. The rear seatbelt logo ALWAYS shows on start up once you start moving and extinguishes after a short time no need to press the ok button. If there are rear passengers it shows the belts used. If a front seat belt is not used it gives an audible warning with single seat symbol whereas the rear is a symbol showing 3 seats....but there is no audible warning with the rear seats. My car is lhd french registered.....seems not all markets get the seatbelt warning system but i would expect all of the eu countries to be the same.
Looking at the on line manual this looks to be the same system in the new c class so i would say it is not a fault. It does not worry me but interested in the suggestion other cars use sensors to register the prescence of passengers. I am used to the system now it is just what the car does.......

Thanks for the feedback, I must simply have missed it until now.
It seems a bit cheap not to put sensors in the back seat, perhaps due to it being one piece, who knows. Occupancy sensors, rather than a constant warning to make you go WTF seems more useful.

Rear Seatbelt Warning
I had my 2013 C Class Coupe in at MB of Peterborough (the UK one) today. It appears that, yes, it always comes on and is a response to a lack of mass sensors in the rear seat. I am told that the colour of the seat belts in the image changes dependent on if the belts are being worn or not.

Our 2009 E-Class W212 also displays this warning every time I start the car and drive off, it disappears again after a second. I have nothing on the back seat and the seatbelts are not clicked in or anything.
It only started to appear this week after it going into the dealer and they applied a software update.
Is this normal, they said it was...
- If yes how do we disable as we never have rarely have anyone in the back seat. Also what software update did Mercedes release that add this?
- If not normal, anyone have any ideas what the issue is?
Thanks, Luke

It is supposed to happen. MB's theory is that it is dangerous to be looking back into the vehicle to check if seatbelts are done up so this is a visual clue. Depending on the belt's state, the icon changes to show it being engaged or not. You can clear the message by pressing OK, ir it will clear itself after maybe 10 seconds.

Same issue
Hi all
first post, reading the thread I can't decide if this is a fault or not, I have just bought an E Class and every time I start the car I get the same warning about the back seat belts being fastened, if it is a fault I want to return the car as I have only had it 3 days, is it something that can be repaired, apologies for the repetition but I have new car anxiety like you wouldn't believe

Am awaiting my new e due in june. Both my glk and c class had the same system.
when you pull away a graphic appears to represent the 3 rear seats. It will show if one or more of the belts are done up. The graphic disappears after a few seconds no action reqd by you.
i like being able to say to a rear seat passenger please fit the seatbelt if they have not! They are surprised i know😊
no passengers it still shows the graphic no belts shown as being done up and again the graphic disappears.
seems a good system to me. The front seats have a different graphis and an audible warning.
understand the new car anxiety but there is not an issue.

I'm going to try re-latching the seat backs to see it that sorts it.
