Turned on my windshield defroster today; it’s freakin loud. Can’t really hear the comedy radio; loudest of all the cars I ever owed (about 10). Your experience?

Really loud on a W245 too. Blower goes to full when you do this.

yeah the front defrost has always been a full blower type of thing. If you dont want that, you can turn on the air and set the vent mode to point to the windshield

I can tell you, it is much louder in my 2014 BMW F11, but also very effective. But in BMW, you can change power level of the front window defroster.

I think in W205 there is only one power level which is a bit irritating.

When it comes on it is on full blast. Just lower the fan speed and it is quieter.

It works very well, and it defrosts the windshield quickly. I can live with a few minutes of loud fan noise.

I also notice a "whistle" when the defrost is at max. It's also noticeable when the heat is up halfway. Pretty annoying. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, it's affective but it will be nice if it's adjustable somehow. I tried that but it would not lower. I'll give it a try again but I'm pretty sure it does not; of course I'm new to this car.

I agree, I think it is hugely impressive how fast it defrosts. It says "Demisting Active" and it goes to town.

I can't see any reason why it needs to be on for more than a couple of minutes.

How did you figure that out? You obviously don't own the car, so here is revelation: It is not possible.

Why is it not possible? Mine is on full or at least sounds like it's on full blast.

Someone with a W205 can correct me if I'm wrong, but in the W245, it will turn on the A/C, and run full blast at the windshield. It's like "ok, I need this cleared up ASAP", which running the A/C (with heat in the winter at the same time) at full blast will do (and what the button's for, as a shortcut).
If you want it at lower/quieter speed, just direct the flow at the windshield yourself, optionally turn on the A/C (for more effectiveness) and you control the speed.

That seems reasonable. I wonder if you could save that setting as a 'favorite' in Comand...
(I'm new to the car, too.)

Let me clear this up (at least a little) as I played with the buttons last night.

Front defroster full - It's max heat and blower at the windshield; AC is not turned on when this button is pushed but it could be on. The heat and blower speed cannot be changed; it's a full on or nothing.
There is another button that turn on the defroster plus mid and floor vent, the speed of the blower could be adjusted from level 1 thru 7 as well as the temp.
AC button - on anytime with heat and of course AC.

I'm still new to this car so the above may not be 100% correct but should be pretty close if it's not right on.

Actually, I DO own a 205. FYI, if you turn the front defroster on you can adjust the speed of the fan. I did this this morning and many mornings in the winter(s). This has been the way with my previous MB's as well.

Could this be a C220 thing? I have a C300 US, you can't adjust fan speed when in full defrost mode. You could push the switch for defrost with mid and floor vents on mode that is speed adjustable.

It's possible it is on Euro spec cars. In fact, I just checked with the a/c on and off and it works as I described. On my car I push defrost then adjust fan speed if it's too high. I will say that the 205 defroster is much louder on high than my previous E class (2).

Hence why it says 'MAX' on the defroster label. Think of it like a convenient override switch. If you don't want 100% fan speed to the defroster, just switch the regular climate control to send air to the defroster at whatever speed you'd like.
