Anyway to turn off the transmission going to park when you open door

I have had a few instances where I forget this like pulling into th car wash since they have to scan my door because I have the unlimited wash package. I was driving forward very slowly and the car throws itself into park if you open the drivers door. Any way to turn it off?

Not that I know of. Its a safety feature to stop you falling out of the car and being crushed etc.

LOL..apply the parking/emergencies brakes in addition to shifting into Neutral would make more sense.

Would a ECU reflash be able to disable it?

I'm missing the logic on why that would be a better implementation.

Because that would still slow down/stop the vehicle without damaging the transmission

What gets scanned, a sticker on the door jamb? Get another sticker and put it somewhere else.

I'm sure they designed it to not damage the transmission which is why it works the way it does. If it shifted into neutral and somebody actually exited the vehicle then what? The vehicle begins rolling out of control? Think outside of car wash and think driveway, parking lot, hill etc.

To the OP- come to a complete stop, press the button for Park and have them scan the sticker.

Actually I wasn't thinking about the OP's car wash situation when I replied with my answer. I'm thinking about countless mechanics and tire shops techs that will do this, as it's something everybody does when they pull into a lift. I'm one of them..by habit. And it DOES damage the transmission, according to the owner's manual.

Shifting into Neutral AND applying the parking\emergencies brakes will stop the vehicle from rolling.

I think it is a good idea! Have a colleague who put E class in neutral rather than park by accident and opened door to get mail. Car rolled down hill and hit another car. She ended up with orbital fracture!

its a safety feature. BMW and audi does this too.

fiat chrysler didn't and it would have prevented anton yelchin from dying. its because most of the new auto transmissions that are electronic don't have shifters with that stairstep pattern or more explicit way to engage park so its possible to accidentally not engage park

It happened a couple of times to me. Now I come to a complete stop before opening the door. Problem solved.

could you point me at the page or section of the manual where it mentions damage as I'd like to read it.

I'm curious if there is a " car wash mode" Acura/Honda that have the push button transmission have this option. From a stop u push neutral with foot on the brake and hold them for 5 seconds and it will enable the auto park safety feature for up to 15 min.

It's a good safety feature because there is no obvious visible lever to show you the car is in gear or in drive. I've been caught out with the car not being in park (easy to do with the keyless start).

If you want to creep forward with the door ajar, just open the door first and then put it into drive .. works on mine; I've done it a few times picking up a newspaper as I'm going up the driveway.

Have any of you ever been ice fishing on a lake in the winter. You drive out on the ice with the door open incase you need to bale out to save your life if the ice gives way stupid engineers no real logic with those folks. Ever been off road and need the door open to creep forward or backwards to see if you are hitting the right spot to get out of the situation your in???? Had this issue on a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder and now same on the 24 unit we have. This sucks all the way around and some illogical idiot engineer came up with this. If it was the space shuttle, then ya you would want all the doors shut when moving to the moon.

I have read that some forum members report if you are below 8? miles per hour if you press park or you open the door it will come to an abrupt stop but first the parking pawl will be engaged and it will tick very loud until it finds a groove to snap into place, doesn't that damage the parking pawl?
