The emergency key access under the door handle is almost impossible to use, especially at night. I find it easier to use the access point under the trunk lid, which opens the trunk and unlocks the car. It also sets the alarm off, but that shuts off as soon as you put the fob in the ignition. Ask me how I know.

I had my key battery dead once and I had to remove plastic from the door handle to get in... a few days ago I even found out that I can roll windows down without the key... after watching this video:

And my next question was going to be exactly how to replace the key battery, so I'm glad I skimmed the video to the end. Thanks for posting.
