C300 Gas Mileage (W205 4-Matic)
I have had a 2015 C300 4 matic for 2 weeks now, and am pretty surprised at the gas mileage. I am averaging 19.4 MPG generally, and 24-25 on the highway. Is anyone experiencing similar (low) results?
Granted, I'd rather have the extra 40 horsepower and much faster 0-60 time
, and I'm sure a small part of this can be attributed to the all wheel drive, but it's certainly noticeably lower gas mileage for me. I probably am also driving a bit more aggressively since it is still brand new and more capable, but am curious of others' observations on this topic.

1. The Cold: Its been really cold up here this last month or two. I also have a van than guzzles like crazy in the winter, so this is what I think might be culprit.
2. Gas: Anecdotally, I have noticed that I get better mileage from Shell gas stations vs others. I think it even has 93octane gas, but I put always 91. In any case, I always seem to get more miles.
3. Engine Temp: My temp guage seems to be rather high after the engine is warmed up. I see it at 85-95deg Celcius when idling at ~1500 rpm. This seems high to me but maybe normal for this engine.

) plus the possibility of you hauling as* with a car that you haven't broken in yet. 4WD + Turbo 4banger = fun at the cost of fuel efficiency. For comparison I get 15 mpg average in my S4 (Supercharged V6 + 4WD) and I broke it in driving it like I stole it (opinions on how to properly break in a car vary, follow the procedures in the manual).
In comparison on average I get 12 mpg in my C63 (NA V8 + RWD) and I broke it in driving it like I stole it.

In cold climate areas, a winter mix is usually used and it's not known for great fuel economy. Temperature also affects the numbers, as do road inclines. On a slight decline I can post mind boggling numbers, but I can also watch those numbers drop like a rock with even the slightest increase in grade. Speed, wind, and acceleration all have an affect as well.
Reports about fuel economy should really include weather conditions, and particularly note any positive or negative grades on the roads traveled. Unless driving conditions are identical, it's really hard to come up with accurate comparisons. Having said that, any C300 should be able to average around 30 mpg +/- (US) under steady state driving on level roads. In traffic, all bets are off.
- Northern NJ to just outside philadelphia (90 ish miles each way) 35 mpg using distronic
- Nice weekend / NJ Turnpike / GSP = 34 mpg using distronic
- daily commute 25 miles each way includes the turnpike extension in rush-hour (stop and go - there is one 6 mile stretch I do in 20 - 25 minutes) - reduces my trip which had been 31 mpg me to 25 - 26 mpg.
- heavy turnpike traffic coming home from work, 19-20 mpg using econ (but disable the "A" button because I dont want to burn out the starter prematurely
