The manual says

- switch off engine
- Remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock, or in vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, open the driver's door. The on-board electronics now have status 0. This is the same as the SmartKey having been removed

It's mandatory full service where I normally refuel. In such case, I normally don't get out of the car.

I did not remove key in my previous car. How serious is the second step?

Hit the unlock door button and the fuel door is unlocked. It locks and unlocks with the doors.
