Whats the point of the MUSIC REGISTER?

Why not give MB customer service a call and see if they can figure out what's happening here? I think we're all thoroughly puzzled at this point.

I've tweeted and FB'd them. I'll try and call later when I'm home. I'm waiting more on anyone else that can do this so I can check that I'm actually not missing something.

That's contrary to the online MB owner's manual ... which comes out of Europe ... and the experience of the majority of us. There may be a codec embedded in your CD's which restricts copying, but I have personally not encountered that here.

Ditto. I've imported quite a few commercial CDs. Having owned both recent BMWs, I can tell you that the I Idrive interface is vastly superior in terms of functionality and usability. Sorry, but I was able to use iPhone apps on a 2012. The CD import in Comand requires you specify the disk source and file target location. It's a bunch of steps. As an IT professional, it feels a bit too much like work. With the Bimmer, the minute you pop it in, it asks you if you want to save it. I suspect you may be getting tripped up where I had been in Comand.

So MB UK have confirmed it won't import any CD's that are copyrighted. Clearly whomever agreed that didn't tell BMW because you can do it on their cars.
So as if COMAND wasn't hard enough, they also block things like this too. The only way around this is for me then to import the CD's on an external CD reader to my laptop, then on to USB and then into the car.
What a bloody faff.

Media register does not work
I also have problems with downloading commercial CDs to the media register. When I try to do that the command is greyed out. I have asked may dealer about it and they are trying to find out what is going on. We will see.

ManiacGT, this is what I do.
1. Put disc in player.
2. Bring up menu and select options from the lower menu.
3. From the options menu, select "save files to media register."
4. Select your disc, which should appear as item #1.
5. Then, you will need to select which tracks you want to import. I selected all media files.
6. Once you have selected the track(s), scroll up and select continue.
7. On the next screen, highlight and select "target folder."
8. Highlight and select HDD.
9. Select start.
Let me know if that works. It's overly complicated compared to BMW.

Thanks for that. It is the same procedure I used and my option to import files is greyed out and not selectable.
MB UK say for copyright reasons.

My dealership just came back with the news that Canadian cars don't have the capability to import CDs to the hard disk, "by mistake". They will do a hardware upgrade to fix it. Hmmm....what else is not there "by mistake"?
For example I don't have a tire pressure monitor, and they said it is not an option in c300. Does anybody out there have this in their car?

Seems different things for different markets. I have speed limit display and tyre pressure monitors etc but no cd import due to copyright reasons.
I'll suck up the fact I can't import CDs for the fact I have equipment that I value that isn't available in most markets.

That's a standard feature in every car I've ever seen in the last dozen years or so. It's accessed from the steering wheel controls and is one of the functions in the vehicle settings menu. I can't believe that MB would omit it for just cars going to Canada.

To be clear, I do have a tire pressure warning, but I don't have a monitor which shows a nice picture of the car with pressure readings for each tire. The sales rep said that that this is what is in all cars he has seen.

It's in the Service menu, not Settings as I thought. Click on the tire pressure selection and it will take you to the screen which shows the actual pressures. It won't give a reading unless the car is in motion.

I have discussed the tire monitor issue with my dealership and one of the service managers explained that Canadian cars have a different system. It monitors tire pressure indirectly, via the wheel speed. Comsequently there is no option for showing pressure for each tire. As to why......?

My dealer fixed the hard disc firmware and it now works. However, I am not sure what happens when in the middle of a CD import to the HD the engin is stopped. The function does not starts again, but I heard some noise from the CD player, as if it was still working, even though the engin was off. I have imported about 5 CDs so far, but didn't have a chance to listen to the whole set yet.
Anybody has a good understanding of how this function works?
