I took a 7 mile trip today during rush hour along mostly freeways. This is an extremely complex section of road with many lanes going in different directions and two major freeway intersections and side roads. The traffic was really backed up, so the Nav said it was rerouting me due to traffic congestion. It had me making multiple turns on road sections I had never been before. I would look over and see the traffic stopped on the freeway while I was moving along just fine. I can't over emphasize how complicated this section of road is. I really saved a lot of time. Color me impressed!

It seems to work reasonably well. There are some bizarre instructions from time to time (in the UK where we have roundabouts, when we approach to go around to turn right it tells us to take a half left, weird).
As for traffic avoidance, this also appears to work so long as there's a traffic info signal. The moment that goes, which is anywhere outside a major town or city, then you're stuck with everyone else.
It's a very good system, but it lacks one very common feature. There is no way of having it show posted speed limits, which is really odd in a system that's otherwise fairly advanced.

What do you mean shows posted speed limits? My nav shows the current zone and zone you're entering speed limit in the lower left of the screen. It uses a camera and nav information to do this.
You can see it here on a photo from the net. Its the while spot with a red circle around it in the lower left of the screen.
Unfortunately, nothing like that in the US. My 10 year old Garmin Nuvi managed to show the speed limit, but no dice on the Benz with Command in the USA.

The nav on Garmin sd card does show the speed limit. I guess the $500 nav beats the $2000 one :-)

Yes, it reads the speed limit sign, but does not use the GPS to display the published speed limit. It is not brilliant as in the UK we have reduced speeds around schools etc. when they in session and the car displays the lower speed limit all the time. Not a particularly bad thing but not accurate. On the whole it is handy.
I'm still in touch with my case manager at MB-USA and asked him about this. He checked for me and verified what I already knew: "I consulted with our Product Advice Department who confirmed the navigation system does not post speed limits in the display."
Too bad, since the graphics are excellent and the screen is large. I can't understand why a key feature like this would not have been included in the US version.
That would presumably be the speed limit you set as the speed for the car to maintain? This thread is talking about legal road speed limits.
no, i usually set it to 75 and it shows the speed limit is 65mph in red indicating that i'm speeding. i'll take a picture if no one understands what i'm saying.

You can set a speed limit warning on the car that will alert you if you go beyond that limit. That's not the same thing as having the navigation showing the speed limit for a given section of the road you're on.

ok. i'll post a picture because you guys just aren't getting it.
how would it know i'm going over if it doesn't know the speed limit on the road? duh. lol.
it shows the speed limit sign w/ the posted speed limit for that road. i'll post a picture later. am i the only who has this feature? i doubt it.

You have the MB navigation that comes with Comand? The Garmin add-on unit that is available without COMAND does show speed limits, and non-US cars have it as part of COMAND. in the U.S., you'd be the first to have that function as part of the COMAND system.

oh, i see what ur saying. i do have the garmin. but its not an add on unit. its just software. that's where u confused me. please see my picture. the garmin kind of sucks and takes 30 seconds to activate almost everytime i turn it on. i had a loaner from the dealer w/ MB nav and i liked it better.
Yes, if you read the above posts before your original, someone pointed out that the garmin nav version has speed limits but the full COMAND does not have it, nor will the cameras from the Distronic safety package pick up the traffic signs.
Here is what Europe has:
Note how the traffic sign alert shows up on both the nav screen and the instrument cluster
wow. europe nav looks cool. speaking of command weirdness - check out what my command did the other day while driving. it only happened once. the screen just turned to black and white lines.
On one of my previous cars (09 VW Passat) the factory navigation (RNS-510) received an update that enabled the posted speed limit signs to appear on the screen. This was a system software update and not a map update; one had to directly ask the dealership to update the system. I do not know how Mercedes goes about Command updates but it should not be difficult for them to implement posted speed limit signs on the navigation screen through an update. The speed limit information could very well already be present (if it's Navteq) in the map data.
