Android as media device?

Has anyone got their android to be recognized as a media device when hooked via the USB in the center console?

I have. Wasn't sure if it was my phone or the car's system, but at first it was only syncing the phone audio only. After a few more tries, I got it to work flawlessly with the phone media.

I have also. Make sure that the phone is on & unlocked. Sometimes unplugging & plugging it back in helps the system recognize it.

Humm. . . interesting.

Two follow up questions:

Did you guys find that audio was better quality when hooked up via the USB port?

Also, was the media on your phone on the "internal" storage or on a SD card within the phone?

Thanks,

Do you need a special cable or phone for that to work? I have Nexus 6 and cannot see how I can connect it as a media device. I connect through Bluetooth and charge through the USB.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I think there may be a size limit for it to recognise it as a media device. 32GB from memory but you should still be able to stream via Bluetooth

Yeah, I can stream via BT just fine, just wanted to compare quality from the same device, same media, just different connections.

Any prompts on the Android device itself whether you want to mount the storage via USB (like when connecting it to a computer)?

Quality is identical via USB vs BT. I'm using standard USB cord; connected as a Media Device (mtp), running Android 5.1 on Nexus 5. Media is on internal storage as N5 doesn't have removable storage.

I have my Nexus 6 connected in the same way but Comand does not see it as a USB device and will only play via BT streaming. Is there something else I am missing.

Thanks
