Spoiler chip :(

I absolutely love my rear spoiler

Spoiler chip :(-dsc02959_zpse4htx67x.jpg

Until I saw this Anyone have any DIY solutions? I would hate to have to drop it off for such a small repair.

That's presumably been done during fitting? If so its going to be back to the fitter. You could try to fill and paint yourself but it won't be perfect.

I never noticed it before. I looked through a few close up shots I took when I first bought the car and the chip wasn't there. It must have chipped after I took ownership. I have no idea how it happened.

If you do feel up to doing it yourself, then I'd suggest putting a slip of grease proof paper behind the spoiler between the spoiler and the bodywork. Then filler it and once set put some very thin layers of paint or mask the entire area other than the filler and spray paint it. Before the paint dries, remove the grease proof paper from behind and you should have a similar gap then between the spoiler and bodywork that is there now to make it look more effective. It depends on how DIY you are really, skills wise. I'm fairly sure I could get a 90% close to perfect given its location and size but others would rather get a pro to do the work ($$$). Having said that, its not a cheap car, so perhaps a bodyshop is the way to go for something near perfect.

Did you order your car with the spoiler? I ask because I noticed it's painted. If you order the spoiler later on, it comes unpainted.

I ordered my 2015 C300 with the spoiler, and I hoping it comes painted the color of the car when it's intalled...at least that's what the salesperson said.

Personally I wouldn't sweat that chip...it's right in the center, and it looks like a drain hole. I'd be more worried having the spoiler removed, and having the trunk deck scratched during the procedure.

The spoiler was already on the car when I purchased it. A coworker of mine ordered his and it did come painted. I'm thinking of buying the iridium silver touch up paint from MB and maybe filling it in with the brush. If that doesn't work I may have to go Maniacs route. I do agree that the shop may end up doing more harm than good.

Dear god please don't just brush paint into the gap, that will not work/it will look horrendous as the paint will go all over the place. If you're not willing to do it properly yourself, get a reputable pro to do the work. It's an expensive car, don't bodge it.

I would mask behind it and use a marine epoxy to fill the defect then do a touch up on that ... I have done this type of work before and if you haven't... Take it to a pro

If it were me, I'd let the dealer fix it. If you do a home repair, with no experience in body work or painting, it will never look right and your eye will always be drawn to it.

Where did your co-worker find the spoiler? The ones I find online don't look the same as the OEM ones.

I work at a Mercedes dealer and almost every C we have in stock has this " chip". I asked around and nobody has an answer for it. There are some in fact that do not have it and i really have no idea why.

I'll bet it's one of the suppliers methods to move it down the assembly line. If you pull the spoiler up and look underneath, there's likely a depression from the rack it moves on....

OR, it was placed too early onto a cooling rack, before the ABS had actually firmed up completely. If this is on multiple spoilers, it's likely a defect in the manufacturing procedure (versus process).

A tiny bit of clear epoxy will likely hide something that small.. saves all the messing around with paint in this instance.

If so inclined you could always press the epoxy (to create a slight concave) and level with a touch up paint on the tip of a tooth pick afterwards.

Doing any more will be best done with it removed and fully resprayed afterwards to avoid blend lines which would IMO look worse than what you have now. ..
