C400 - Custom Exhaust Modification, Straight pipe, resonator/muffler delete -PICS!

Any update on this project? Please keep us posted. Looks like the only difference between c400 and c450 on the exhaust system is the C450 has only one resonator and a set of larger mufflers(where it matters the most in terms of sound). Here are some pictures of the C450 exhaust system if you are interested found from this forum just so it's easier to compare. Hope the owner of these pictures don't mind.

C450 exhaust system look very similar to c400 minus the middle resonator.. but sound a lot better.. what do you think guys is it the 2 end muffler/exhaust makes it different?

My sales rep actually had me go by to test drive a C450.
All I have to say is WOW! It's exactly what I wanted my C400 to be, both sound wise and shift point wise... It blips like a full AMG would & shifts super quick!
It only had about 100kms on it, so it will sound better once the exhaust is broken in... But it still burbles and pops...
In the past, I've removed resonators on my cars to get a "better" sound or burble, but I'm pretty sure Angelo tried that in his exhaust tests...

bump, hats off to the guy who started this thread:
So in summary then for the C450, it appears the mufflers then are the key to sound...is there a valve in there that opens up during Sport/Sport + mode as compared to Comfort?
Hm, how can we make this thing louder, perhaps just throw get a custom pipe to replace the mufflers?

I tried to remove the mufflers and put angled resonators as well and the drone at 2,000 RPM was unbearable, unfortunately this is "cruising speed" so I had to put the mufflers back.

Curious, do you think we would get drone if we left the OEM resonators on but did a muffler delete?
I saw a lot of the Ecoboost Mustang guys saying they left factory resonators in and just did a muffler delete for the noise and they don't experience drone.
Just wondering if that may work on the C450?

Angelo, just curios, did you try it out with the stock resonators in place combined with those angled resonator/mufflers?

Muffler delete with stock resonators is terrible

I hate how the Y pipe is angled in these cars towards the right side, therefore when its cold it looks like the left pipe is fake because hardly any steam comes out and also the right exhaust tip gets pretty dirty

If the drone is bad with both mufflers deleted even with both resonators intact, how would it be if i deleted just the left muffler? Do you guys think it will sound uneven since only the left side will be louder?

First, I would like to say I had done a muffler and resonator delete on my w205. So I did about 4-5 weeks of research on exhuasts, warranty, how it would sound after the work done, etc. before doing the deletes. One thing that was most apparent to me was that almost everyone that had done a muffler/resonator delete was complaining about drone. I deleted both rear mufflers and had the secondary resonator removed (there are two resonators on my car). I had initially just the two mufflers removed but it wasn't the sound I was quite looking for, so I went back and got the secondary resonator removed. I initially thought that the sound would be super loud and obnoxious, but it actually sounds a lot more time than I thought it would. The cold start sound isn't obnoxiously loud, but it does have a nice deep low tone and grumble to it, although once the car warms up the deep exhaust grumble goes away. It really isn't that loud.
Throughout many forums, people seem to be complaining about interior drone and how it unbearable, but personally to me I doesn't have that much drone. I personally listen to music around the medium to loud range when driving, and the drone isn't too bad. You will notice some vibration though. If you are on the throttle a lot, you'll probably notice the drone a little more around the 2k-4k range, where you'll hear the drone. But when cruising and the rpms are around 1.2-2k the drone is hardly noticable. When going 75-80 mph or more that's when the drone may be a bit more noticeable, but if you're someone who listens to music while driving, the drone isn't that noticable. I'm pretty happy with my muffler/resonator delete and this is just my personal input on the muffler/resonator delete.
I do believe that I am on the younger side of the owners for a w205, so that may be a factor to why I enjoy the sound more and the drone isn't too much of an issue to me. I'm just putting this out there for the people that are thinking about doing a muffler/resonator delete.

So I finally had the chance to drop off my car to get a custom exhaust made and we were able to look under to see what we can do. The shop owner recommended, true dual exhaust setup, which replaces the two mufflers/resonators in the middle then replace the stock mufflers to magnaflow mufflers. This is better than having your regular one pipe exhaust, the true dual will also give you some performance gain while having the loud or aggressive exhaust sound you want. I'm out for the week for a trip but the car going to be finished in like 3 days, so when I get back from my trip, I'll post the new setup and share it with you guys.

age has nothing to do with enjoying "drone", during cruise at a constant 2k RPM, it gets "old" fast.

Update to this thread, Today my mind was blown! I visited a local Mercedes shop that does OEM retrofits and coding.
I got a "Sound Design Activation" with STAR, and it added "burble" and slightly louder tone! I was so amazed that software alone gave me the burble in my exhaust as the car downshifted.
It's not as loud as say a C43, but i'm a happy camper!

@angeloxnet How much did it cost you and where is this shop located? I'm in the Durham Region and I might do the same thing.
