Carbon fiber trim

Carbon fiber trim
I've seen a lot of talk about carbon fiber this and carbon fiber that, but does anyone know if carbon fiber interior trim has any practical utility? I would think it's more lightweight, but the interior panels are so small, it probably wouldn't make a big diff imo. i'm guessing same goes for the silver fiberglass trim offered in Germany

You're right.
The main advantage of Carbon Fibre is to replace metal parts (as it can have very similar strength, but only against one direction of force). Therefore, if you have parts that are made of steel, or even aluminium, then CF can offer a substantial weight saving.
When compared to interior parts - which are normally plastic anyway, the weight saving is less. All too often, the CF obsession is about look - so most manufacturers simply emboss normal injection moulded plastics to look "similar" to people perceptions of CF (ie diamond embossed) rather than go for the much more expensive layering process involved in CF manufacture.
