thats what the dealer told me today too when i asked. but i wonder, why is this so? harder shifts don't necessarily mean faster shift times, look at BMW sport-auto, crisp shifts. not to mention how smooth DSG's are - makes me wonder

It is supposed to add a more raw and sporty feel to the drive mode, and I think it is working.

True, but I'd rather have smooth, fast shifts. I think the DSG in my last car spoiled me

7G tronic is still an old fashioned torque converter transmission, it wont shift any faster than this.

Wow really? And they still can't make it shift properly.

Just had the car on its first annual service. No new updates for Transmission, but a new software for the engine was released some months ago. it made the engine run smoother and the shift from 2nd to 3rd is not as hard as it was earlier. Still there, but much better.

My car has been returned. With, I'm told, new engine & transmission software.

The D2 to D3 shift shock has gone.

........ I now have the same shock D1 to D2

Thanks for reporting this. Glad to hear of the improvements. Did you have to ask for reprogramming or cite a specific complaint? How long does it take for them to 'reprogram'?

I simply told them it was shifting hard and it wasn't what I expected interns of refinement from MB. They connected it to their systems and it reported software improvements for both engine and gearbox so I'm told. I've no idea how long an update takes to apply.

So I'm pleased to report the initial d1/d2 jerkiness has gone now, presumably the new software/adapting.

I'd say cold or warm the gearbox is much better now with the software I had installed last week.

Firmware! Lol. Is this a car a computer. Perhaps it can be liquid cooled and overclocked. Don't answer that.

As far as I know the only new software is the engine. Transmission software branded to fix the issue is not yet publicly released.
What you are seeing is the effect of the new engine software.
Transmission software will come September/October.

If I may ask: my D2 to D3 shifting when in anything < Sport seems "OK". If I go into Sport mode the shifting from D2 to D3 even makes the missus reacts. It is more of a jolt, than a shift. So the question is: should I have been experiencing the jerky shifts in all modes - for it to warrant attention ?

no software updates scheduled

Just got this from the dealership, stating that there are NO known issues with the transmission software, only the attached service bulletins.

I've just had my car in for few things one being the gears shifst as mentioned, there was an update on the care done and tech said he also fine tuned the gear changes all the way thru indivually (however that's done?) and currently there seems a big improvement in driving especially from cold start when between 2nd -3rd the car seemed to be holding back from changing gear and rather jerky, but deffo said there was an update released regards this...
