High engine temperature

Hi all, Got my W205 C200 petrol a few days ago and have only done 180 miles. The engine temperature gauge registers roughly halfway between the mid and high points which I guess equates to something like 100 degrees centigrade. I was wondering if this OK and something to be expected when the M274 engines are new?

Mine is usually around 80 and occasionally 100 when being pushed. It's going to be a tiny bit high as its running in.

Mine is like this when I'm parked and when I'm driving it, one more lights up

Is yours too high?

My engine temp runs exactly as you describe and like your picture shows. C400 with 6500 miles in 9 months.

Is the temp gauge on the W205 for oil temp or coolant temp/rad?

Today mine was the same as yours, whereas last week one more segment was showing. One problem with a segmented display rather than an analogue dial is that a very small rise in water temperature could appear more dramatic than the actual difference in values. I assume when the gauge is as shown in your picture it's measuring somewhere between 88 and 96 which I would guess would be normal and when one more segment is showing it'd be 96 to 104 which at the top end of this range I would have thought is starting to get a bit hot, although nothing too serious. I'll keep an eye on the gauge to make sure it doesn't go any higher.

Thanks very much Xzer0 for the feedback and for putting my mind at rest.

I'm glad that my picture helped

The funny thing is that I was worried about it too this morning before I read your post so I took a picture

I don't usually look at that gauge, but I did.

It's a normal temp operating range.
