On-board computer going haywire
Two incidents so far:
Case#1:
A soaking wet rainy day leads occasionally to "Left mirror indicator" warning.
Observations:
1. when trying to signal to the left, it clicks faster than usual (as if one of the lights is gone), from the outside, everything looks normal, including blinking rate.
2. After not using the overnight (>12 hours), while driving next morning (10 to 13 °C), engine warmed up already, accelerating from 0 to 50 km/h (S+/manual, 1st, second at 40), the car turns into a meth lab (exhaust producing white smoke). Nothing happens when I leave my office in the afternoon (parked underground).
Occurrence: two times, first, only with a warning, same message. Second time, with both observations.
Case#2:
Using the mighty park assist to park the car for less than an hour), when rolling out of the parking space (driving away manually).
Observation:
1. A very interesting warning pops up "Park Assist inoperable".
2. Park again manually on the side of the road, turn off the engine for 10 seconds. start again, and the warning is gone!
3. in the next few hour, while driving around (city center), all potentially parking spaces are no longer detected, <P> sign (I use the feature frequently and I know exactly how to fish one). Nothing works until I park overnight, next day, everything is alright again.
I was wondering if there is a syslog (system log) that retains errors, activities,... The reason behind my question so that when I took my car (after the first indicator warning), I was told that there is nothing wrong with the car (they assured that the car was tested using the service computer as a normal procedure). I think though they wanted to see a dead LED before applying a certain fix.
I didn't raise the meth lab issue as anyone can easily say (head gasket, coolant, condensation,...) - everything looks normal, fluids, engine temp,... car made less than 3000 KM in 4 months, revved moderately (below 4000 rpm). This is my current commuter (about 2 x 6 KM), very low average speed in the city. Haven't exceeded 120 km/h on the highway (yet).
Best you can do is to make sure and document everything, take photos and video, and try to get it to the dealership as soon as possible after having an issue.
This is quite normal.
