Saw this late on Sunday evening, I couldn't tell whether it happened in the multi-storey car park or in front of my place as I didn't see the back of the car when I took off that afternoon.
While I have to drive for like a week like this waiting for insurance "expert" assessment (not cool), I did not expect the bumper/fake plastic grill to be that "fragile".
Left-rear sensor can still detect a wall. However, after testing self-parking (on the right side of the road) the car started to reverse then turned the wheel (until it locked) to the right... as if it was either going to park vertically or make a u-turn (or hit two cars trying to squeez itself vertically in a 1 meter space between the two other cars). Not a big deal I think, I guess sensors will have to be claibrated/changed anyway during bumper replacement.
I asked for a high level estimate for the bumper alone (without the lower parts) is around 2,000 Euros (not including labor) - and while I won't be paying anything, this is quite high for such a bumper (unless it's all about the intelligent sensors)
Really feel for you man...
I try to avoid malls, and try to park as far away as possible from other cars. Still always an ******* ends up parking right beside the car whenever i return.
at least its plastic only and easily replaceable...but yeah it sucks...some people just don't have respect for others property. **** can happen to anyone, but at least be a human being and leave a note or something.

That was a thump, wonder it it was a towbar that impacted? You have my sympathy having experienced similar myself. Like other posters we are always careful where we park to try to minimise exposure but you cannot eliminate it and some people are selfish, inconsiderate and on occasions just plain stupid and they seem attracted to the cars of those of us who are shall we say a bit precious about them. Mind you your damage is way beyond the minor scuff left by a door opening on yours and is in the realms of serious unacceptable negligence.
I avoid parallel parking like the plague here in france as bumpers are used as a parking tool and frequently you will see cars blocked into spaces you would think it is impossible to leave. But with a bit of wheel twirling and if neccessary touching of the cars either end the car will escape......now to my english eye using the car in front or behind as a stop marker is not on but my fellow residents here do not share that view....but then so is stopping so close to another car you restrict their manouvering space.
You may be surprised and find the bumper can be reformed some interesting videos on you tube, i researched when our glk was kindly scraped by some inconsiderate driver in a hotel car park.

Normandie france so not far away and indeed you know all about french driving i am sure
Hope you get the car sorted asap it is not nice having to look at damage like that. Interestingly I did read in the current mb magazine produced for the french market that Hella has come up with technology that will record when a car is hit using sensors. It will distinguih between benign impact and those causing damage and if fitted a camera could record the no plate of the offending vehicle. They see it initially being attractive to hire car companies for obvious reasons. I would certainly have it as an option if mercedes offered it.
Once repaired hopefully you can forget all about this nasty event.
2014 E350 also restored: 1969 Camaro convertible SS 1957 Chevy Belair 2dr hardtop
Sorry to see that. That is why I have a front and rear camera that records when in park. All I have to do is take out the chip and see what happened. Cost about $400 installed.
So, this has been fixed; service was very good.
What do you think about the fitment of the bumper (this is a new one... I guess).
Note: Black dots are due to faulty phone camera sensor.
It looks FANTASTIC! All of us on this forum care deeply about our cars, so it hurts us all when someone's car is damaged by someone so uncaring. I'm glad to see it was restored to brand new condition!
looks much better. I'm always wary of where I park my car, but since 90% of its time during the day is spent either parked next to a guy I carpool with to work or in my garage, I guess I don't have that much to worry about.
My 2009 Audi A4 had the entire right side ripped apart by what I assume was a snow plow blade while it was parked. My 2012 Volvo S60, when it was four weeks old, had the right front fender crushed in a parking lot.
No one ever takes responsibility for these incidents, and I've never heard of notes being left for the owner of the damaged car. It is upsetting, of course, but a good body shop can do the repairs so that the car will be as good as it was before being hit. Your bumper replacement is fine and would never be seen as a replacement.
