Aftermarket Alarm

Has anyone installed an aftermarket alarm into the new MB? Looking to add something to add more deterrent but want to keep the factory remotes and features. Any ideas would be very helpful. Thanks

Hi, here in Ireland MB have started with the W205 to have no factory alarm at all, I just discovered this on my C200 Blue Tec, all my previous MB cars C W204 and E W212 all had alarm which were very good indeed.

MB do not advertise that the new MB's no longer have an alarm it is not even listed in the available extras list, but if you ask its €750 for a factory fit alarm.
Rant over!
But even the cheapest Kia has an alarm as standard.

Anyhow, my local alarm guy says VIPER is the way to go, its a CAN BUS interface using the standard MB remote works with keyless entry and start also. He said to this alarm he can add GPS tracking and remote start and its an easy install.
Clifford are also very good and can have two way comms so that the fob will display a message if anyone or thing is taking an interest in your MB!

I have just ordered a GLC to replace the C200 as I found the C200 Blue TEC very under powered and like most cars then the power plant is to small it is heavy on fuel compared with my last W212 220 CDI

Depends on what you mean by alarm. They do have theft prevention measures. The car cannot be started without RFID key, MB can track the location by GPS, you can set warnings in M-B Embrace app if your car leaves a geo fenced area. However, if you're looking for a a flashing led and a siren if someone bumps a window, no it doesn't come with that. Who pays attention to sirens anyway?

Alarm

Hi Iboroom, I am not so sure tracking is available via the Mercedes Apps in Ireland.
Yes it does send your GPS location in an SOS situation but I cant find apps as you mention in your reply.
Presently you can have your laptop or other valuable item placed in the boot(trunk) the car be in your drive way a thief can smash the window pull the remote boot(trunk) release and make off with your valuables or indeed load the car on a flatbed without making much notice if any.
All our older MB's has a siren ultrasonic and anti tilt-tow away sensors which gave some notice that your MB was been attacked!

Most theft in Ireland is from you car not having the car stolen, although this does happen also, I am going to add an alarm with a Siren Flashing Lights, tilt and shock sensors with a pager fob!

If the little ba*ta%ds ever realise MB cars have no active alarm there will be theft spree from newer MB cars. It is like houses these people generally like to rob from a house with no alarm.

As I said previously every other low cost car has better theft protection, my old run around Ford Mondeo 2008 ( which I still use for work) has dead locks and a full alarm, if you smash a window the doors or boot(trunk) cant be opened it has a siren from the impact sensors and tow away protection. The lack of the Double locking dead locks on MB seems very poor to me.

Don't get me wrong the MB is a fine car I just wish they made things a little clearer to their customers and I would have added the "anti theft package", which was not listed in even under options but is available if you ask!

In the UK my C class has an alarm system with immobiliser and interior protection as standard. It's not MB being generous but the law was changed a few years ago to reduce car thefts.

Find it had to believe the car would not have this sort of protection standard throughout the world but then my car doesn't have room for a spare wheel so maybe I am not surprised.

A little late, but I notice that the man did not receive an explanation. You ask what we mean by the alarm mounted on the car. You probably haven't had one before. Let me explain briefly: if someone takes dubious actions on the car, then the device screams, turns on the lights and eventually sends signals to the owner's pager or phone for warning.

A simplier solution would be a cloud dvr dash camera with WiFi or LTE like the Blackvue line and a 24/7 parking recording battery pack.

The camera can send alerts with images and gps.

I have front / rear video recorder. I am interested in the alarm on the car CAN and SMS communicator. I found something interesting.

I’ve fitted an Ampire CANBUS immobiliser to my W205 and you set a code using the standard switches ie press volume up volume down etc
when you get in you press the series of buttons and the immobiliser deactivates
fantastic piece of kit
