Aftermarket Alarm
MB do not advertise that the new MB's no longer have an alarm it is not even listed in the available extras list, but if you ask its €750 for a factory fit alarm.
Rant over!
But even the cheapest Kia has an alarm as standard.
Anyhow, my local alarm guy says VIPER is the way to go, its a CAN BUS interface using the standard MB remote works with keyless entry and start also. He said to this alarm he can add GPS tracking and remote start and its an easy install.
Clifford are also very good and can have two way comms so that the fob will display a message if anyone or thing is taking an interest in your MB!
I have just ordered a GLC to replace the C200 as I found the C200 Blue TEC very under powered and like most cars then the power plant is to small it is heavy on fuel compared with my last W212 220 CDI
Yes it does send your GPS location in an SOS situation but I cant find apps as you mention in your reply.
Presently you can have your laptop or other valuable item placed in the boot(trunk) the car be in your drive way a thief can smash the window pull the remote boot(trunk) release and make off with your valuables or indeed load the car on a flatbed without making much notice if any.
All our older MB's has a siren ultrasonic and anti tilt-tow away sensors which gave some notice that your MB was been attacked!
Most theft in Ireland is from you car not having the car stolen, although this does happen also, I am going to add an alarm with a Siren Flashing Lights, tilt and shock sensors with a pager fob!
If the little ba*ta%ds ever realise MB cars have no active alarm there will be theft spree from newer MB cars. It is like houses these people generally like to rob from a house with no alarm.
As I said previously every other low cost car has better theft protection, my old run around Ford Mondeo 2008 ( which I still use for work) has dead locks and a full alarm, if you smash a window the doors or boot(trunk) cant be opened it has a siren from the impact sensors and tow away protection. The lack of the Double locking dead locks on MB seems very poor to me.
Don't get me wrong the MB is a fine car I just wish they made things a little clearer to their customers and I would have added the "anti theft package", which was not listed in even under options but is available if you ask!
Find it had to believe the car would not have this sort of protection standard throughout the world but then my car doesn't have room for a spare wheel so maybe I am not surprised.
