Gas Consumption C180

Hi, I've had my 2016 C180 for three weeks now and have gone through 3 tanks of gas. I would like to know the real life mileage (l/100km) everyone is getting because I am really surprised that I am not even near the suggested consumption figures. Official MB values suggest from 6.8 - 7.4 l/100km for city driving, which is between 31.8 mpg (50.9 km/g) and 34.6 mpg (55.4 km/g). I am averaging 15.6 l/100km which equals 15.08 mpg (24.12 km/g)!!! I have been driving around like an old lady and in ECO mode but the figures are pretty much the same.

Please let me know your numbers because for a 1.6 turbo this figures are ridiculous. Thanks.

I feel your pain. I'm struggling to get more than 27mpg around town and 40mpg on the motorway (uk) in my C200. Dealer tells me it needs circa 4000/5000 miles before I'll see much improvement (wearing in).

My C180 has averaged at 9,5 l/100km
it's probably normal for your driving style traffic many red lights and up hills.

Ok I don't feel that bad now.. Car says avg is 8.2 l/km for mainly town driving. It's still miles away from the official figures tho which IMHO is grounds to return the car if unhappy.

That does sound terrible.

I guess there will always be a point where an engine is "too small" for the size (mass) of the car, so driving in the real world means you are having to work it harder than is economic...? Of course, when they are doing the testing conditions are ideal (if they are not rigged, anyway).

I cannot think of any car that gets anywhere near what is claimed - but this seems exceptional, to me.

You asked for the numbers - not a fair comparison, but I am getting 42.4 mpg on a mainly town drive. On runs, I get an (indicated) 47-51mpg, driving briskly, but not ballsy.

In a petrol car? That's way more than I can achieve no matter what I try.

No, mine is a Diesel - hence my comment of an unfair comparison. But, well below the claimed MPG, just the same.

They do take a long time to break in. Mine has been gradually getting better over 10,000 miles, but it's still a fair way off the claimed figures. It's the first car I've owned that my normal driving has't come within a couple of mpg of the claimed combined figure.

Maybe VW weren't the only ones fiddling the tests...

I don't have the same engine but have you tried driving your car on highways? long trips? if you based your comsumptions on city driving very short distance you wont get published figures by MB. but 15.6 to gallon definitely needs to be checked.. i have w205 v6 and averaging 22mpg combined.

So while my car is in for its acoustic glass to be fitted, I have a C220 diesel loaner to use.

On the same run as my car, it gets 11mpg more.

I thought I'd get more than that which suggests for me it's the route and not the engine to blame for poor mpg.

What sort of route was it, and what mpg did you see?

Short route, cold start, stop start traffic/inner city. My c200 gets 28 the c220d got 39.
