Warning on "free" 7 day insurance in the UK

If you are looking to use the "free" 7 day insurance cover that Mercedes provide, make sure you look at the cover note immediately.

I got the 7 day cover, and then rang up my own insurers to start my normal insurance on the new car a few days after collection.

On looking at the 7 day cover note when the email from Mercedes came through, they started the insurance 7 days BEFORE I collect the car so it runs out on the day I actually get hold of it.

Not only that but the cover note started 4 days BEFORE I contacted them, so it looks like that is what their system defaults to.

I have now contacted my own insurance company and am now fully insured with them from day 1, and I will be complaining to Mercedes Insurance when they open on Monday.

So be careful you do not drive uninsured, because of this con.

I suspect this is not a 'con' as you put it but simply an error. My free 7 day insurance from MB started the day I collected my car, I checked the documents.

When I contacted them initially they were told that the 7 days had to start on 20th. I was in the dealership when I rang them, and then had to go out for the rest of the day.

When I found a few minutes I then rang my own insurers.

This morning is the first time I had available to go through my emails, and that's when I found the issue.

Yes, I know "con" is not the correct word, but if it makes people sit up and think to check before they collect their car like both you and myself did then it all helps

Yup it was all fine with my 7 day cover as well

I think it's a case that you should have checked your documents & emails carefully

I did check them and found the error when I first read them.

All sorted now, so have 7 days from when I pick the car up, and not ending on the day I pick the car up.
