Thank you for all detailed information. It makes me start working on doing the same project on my car.

I only have one doubt: By doing this "modification" will the warranty be void?.
In particular, I've had issues with the screen twice (first time they updated the software. The second time, they replaced the display controller. Both times, no charge. So, it worries me that if the screen fails again and I have already installed the camera, they might use this as an excuse for the failure.

Warranty is not void because of this. The aftermarket backup camera installs offered by dealers use the same method of adding a video signal injection box between the command module and the LCD display. You would only have issues if they could prove that the aftermarket install caused damage.

Thank you for the very informative post. I was able to install my backup camera today without running into any issues.

However, I am having problems with no audio coming from the HDMI input through the interface box. How did you manage to set yours up? Where do you find the AUX input connection on the W205?

I have that problem as well. There are talks of there being a hidden AUX in capability but I gave up trying to research it. What I found out was that if you use wireless casting, the Android/iOS device will also send audio to the cast stream along with the video stream, in order to keep things in sync. However, if you use an HDMI out cable, at least with Android the Audio will continue to flow through Bluetooth if you have it connected. So I've fallen back to this setup, with a HDMI cable going from a Samsung Note to the interface box, and audio is fed through Bluetooth. It's less than ideal, but it works, more or less.

thank you so much for the detailed post , i came across this today and i would like to ask if i can just order the HD-Link and install it , my car has the rear camera already but i want to install this for video features and connect an HDMI stick to it , Roku or Amazon Fire , use airplay in car , do i just order the items and ask the local dealer to install it ? anything i should look for ? cables ?

i live in Egypt and i don't think i would be able to find all the parts here so I'm making sure before i order anything .

I wouldn't do it just for video, because there is no way to get an audio feed into the car. There is no Aux-in jack and the HD-Link is a video-only device.

can't believe they didn't add an AUX jack to this car , it's stupid i swear

i just came across the 12 inch replacement screen mod and i believe it's very easy , easier than this mod and can connect to HDMI directly , usb too and aux via FM Transmitter . i think i'll research this one more

I'm guessing some owners want a 3.5mm aux in jack to connect something that doesn't connect via USB or Bluetooth. Just get a $30 Bluetooth transmitter from EBay. It plugs into the headphone jack of your device. You can connect anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack using this method.
