Cool Options for Service A

So my annual service on my 2015 C400 is coming up, and the dealership wants $259 for Service A. Given this is just a glorified oil change, are there other better options?

I'm sure there are. We were just quotes $380 to do a B service on my wife's infiniti QX60. We took it to our local mechanic and they did it for 80 bucks. They pulled up the manual, ran through and did everything on the checklist, and that was that.

Oh, and the dealer wanted to charge us a few hundred because my kid closed the door on his seatbelt and threw the door closed sensor out of alignment so the door open warning was always on. The real car people at the mechanic fixed it for free.

I don't see why mercedes cars would be any different from every other car I've ever had in that regard. Dealers rip you off and give you no better (and often worse) service for routine maintenance. Only worth going to them for warranty work

if you want to resell the car, might be best to get it done at MB dealership. also, shop around, they dont all charge the same price.

As long as the mechanic logs the service properly in the book, it shouldn't make a difference. Important thing is an ability to demonstrate that required services were performed

i got my A, B and C services prepaid at lease time for $500 split over the months of leasing, so it added like $14 to my monthly. Just happy to get it all done at the MB dealership

Just did the first service A on the wifes 2015 c300. Cost me less than $80.00 bucks. Followed the service A schedule in the manual. The book says to replace the cabin filter on this service. It looked like new. Keep your receipts and do it yourself. The only discrepency I find is with service B. The book says to use Dot4 + brake fluid for the fluid flush. No body seems to recognize that requirement. Dot goes from dot 4 to dot 5.1

DOT 4+ (which isn't a real DOT specification) will be equivalent to 5.1. Manufacturers started calling things Dot 4+ or super DOT 4 to match the 5 specifications for wet/dry boiling point. before 5.1 was officially released.

For those that don't know, Dot 5 is not compatible with most vehicles, but had a higher wet/dry boiling point over 4. Dot 5.1 was released later and is compatible with most vehicles and has similar wet/dry boiling points as 5. So, 4+ or Super 4 can be met by 5.1 (but not 5)

Just had my service A done yesterday at the dealership and it turns out that free wiper blades are not on the list in Canada.
