C450 AMG
Yes, every C450 is faster than any C400 stock for stock, 100%...not only in a straight line but also around a track. That isn't debatable, Benz wouldn't make a slower car and throw an AMG badge on it.

As far as numbers and performance increase, generally speaking, its 10 whp for evey .1 sec in the quarter, not crank, so I believe the C450 AMG will be in fact a 4.55 sec car to 60 as opposed to the C400 4.7...that is based on strictly hp alone, no clue what the torque split and other goodies will do for acceleration...

I think anyone comparing these cars on straight line speed is missing the point for the C450...It turns, and turns like a madman. With just a flash, I bet this thing could run laps with some strong cars at a track.

In regards to ride comfort and red stitching in the interior....My car has the crystal grey interior with the wood finish and I will say it looks quite classy...Granted it's not a maybach but when I put the car in comfort mode/eco mode it reminds me of the bipolar nature of the car....track prep/solid cruiser...

The C450 overall will be a better car than any C400. It's a byproduct of research, time, technology, and improvements as any new model always beats the last. Mercedes put out a class leading pseudo AMG to bridge a gap and that's what they did...

Almost all reviews agree this car is the best of both worlds. Sport and Comfort in class of course. I apologize if I offended you by saying no one needs to defend their purchase, it's just look at the nature of your posts...it kind of screams insecurity.

I agree the diamond like grill is tacky, but the 19 inch rims look better than any C400 in my opinion. Can't have it all I suppose

You are incorrect about the 10 HP at the wheels.Back when this rule of thumb was developed(1960's)no one was using WHP.If you increased WHP by 10 you would gain more than .1sec in et.10 WHP is equal to about 11.5 crank HP

I beg to differ, although I will my pay respects to seniority.

According to you though, 10 whp is equvialent to 11hp? No, there is drive terrain loss and I'll stick to what I said. 10 whp is equivalent to .1 in the quarter, and furthermore the 30 hp increase equates to roughly 15 whp, which to me suggests the times I stated...

To each his own, again, we will wait for numbers.

You misread what I said.I said that you need 11.5 crank HP to equal 10 WHP.Most estimates of driveline loss is about 15%.If you multiply 10 WHP by 1.15 you get 11.5 crank HP.The rule of thumb is 10 HP = .1 sec,so if you increase crank HP by 1.5 HP,you will decrease et by slightly more than .1sec.If you multiply 33HP by .85(15% drivetrain loss) you get 28 WHP.The 28 WHP will get you a .3 reduction in et.

I think it would be very hard to have a 4wd car actually spin the wheels from a start..that is going to require quite a bit of torque

Wow, based on your other thread and the numbers posted, you are right in terms of numbers difference between the C450 and C400. The C450 is significantly faster from the data...very cool Oldman thanks for sharing.

I take back my earlier post regarding 1/4 miles times and whp...it seems at the end of the day, experience knows best : )

I had put a deposit down on a C450 and asked my sales rep to get me one to test drive so I could validate my decision. He called last week and we took it out with my wife driving the first few miles and then we changed seats.
I figured out the driving modes and had it in Sports plus and took some corners and was more thatn impressed as it was much faster than a C400 I drove several months ago but passed when I learned the C450 was coming out.
We hit a red light and as I was slowing down a new BMW 6 series with paper plates pulls up next in the left lane. Light turn green I roll out looking to see if he's game and he nails it and jumps me 1/2 a car but I catch him about 40 mph and and have him half a car by 60. We hit the slow down for the next light, clear road no one in sight, I"m ready light turns green and 40 years of racing become instinctive. We have him by a half of car by 60.
His passenger gives us a thumbs up! Decision validated my order's in late December delivery.

Checked the BMW web site to see what the 6 series does 0-60 and it shows 4.3. So I'm pretty confident The C450 will best 4.5.

Impressive given you had 1 or 2 passengers and the other car 1. Was it a 640 or 650. Coupe or gran coupe? Just curious. Those things are slugs. My friend has a 650gran coupe and I drove it...found it to be a slug

I had two passengers my wife and the sales rep. It was a coupe and the sales rep had a better view and said it was a 650. It was a more than 1/2 a car and pulling but who cares. No trophy just street validation.

Is this correct?

Or is it faster in Sport+ with traction off?

Actual recorded times by forum members have been faster (in the 4.2-4.3 range). Here is the post that should have been revived https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...n-testing.html.

I would say their claim of 4.58 in that video is a bit optimistic since the needle seems to still be a hair to the left of 60 mph when they make the time claim.

Totally agree with you old man, no clutch dumping with our cars. If we had race start like the AMGs, it would be a different story..
I'll have to post my video of my 1/4 mile with my tune only. My son took the video and there was wheelspin.
In regards to acceleration to 60mph, I can only show my 1/4 mile time slip between stock and my tune, but on the tune I ran a 12.20 @116mph which is the same as a C63S and the C63S gets to 60 in 3.9 seconds, which must be with limited rwd traction compared to awd...
Something to think about...

I have a stock C450 with 1950 miles. It was somewhat cool here late last week at night, took the car out with VBOX to get some 0-60 on a nicely fresh paved road in town. Around 11 pm, it was probably 60 degrees or so... no real humidity.

I did it 3 times.

4.45 1st time
4.38 2nd go
4.31 3rd go

Was done in sport plus mode all around, left foot brake, right foot gas, revved it up around 2K rpm and off we went. Tire pressure was 41/40

Nice! Thats impressive for stock especially if the vbox was set with the 1ft rollout off. This motor is a beast at 50-60 degrees when the turbos spool dense cool air
