But with your remote you can try bouncing the beam of a wall so it reaches the sensor

This actually works quite well and I do it often or tell people to do it say when they are in a large parking lot and don't really know where their car is. You can connect to unlock and blink the lights or trigger the car lock/unlock or even alarm from quite a distance away.
