W205 C250 BLUETEC
Tale of 2 C250BE and C300 - Rear Suspension Knock

Took delivery of a W205, 250BE in May and eventually wore my patience down. Plagued by myriad of electronic failures, constant flashing of warning lights, Turbo lag, interior rattles and crashes. Retuned to Dealership with 3 000km on the clock and they agreed - without too much resistance or drama - to replace with a C300 (they had one in stock). So far with less than 1 000km it meets every expectation. One matter that I cannot fathom that was heard clearly on both the defunct 250BE and now to a lesser degree on the C300 is a knock from the LHS rear suspension when the wheel drops into a minor imperfection. It sounds as if something is knocking the chassis underneath (exhaust) or as if something is loose in the boot. I cannot trace and I cannot find and it drives me crazy. Fortunately it is less noticeable in the C300 than the 250 where 2 shocks were replaced after 1 000ks but to no effect. Anyone else experienced this?

I had this on my old car (w204) after hitting a pot hole hard, just before part exchanging for my current C250D.

I took it into a local garage, and, on my car, it was the top bushel on the shock absorber that had been damaged.

The noise I heard on mine was like a clunk, and I originally thought I may have knocked something loose, as it sounded like two pieces of metal knocking against each other.

Your's could be something like that, where you have a bad bushel, or shock, or it's a bit loose.

It sounds the same, but I'm sure other people will have other reasons for you to contemplate.

I recently had our S205 in for a check, also with knocks from the rear. I could not locate the source either.

Solution was that they greased, oiled or tigthened the folding rear seat locks.

I wasn't able to get full details, thats all the guy at the desk could tell me, sorry..

Knock were gone when I drove it home, and wife have not complained since, so assume it good now.

Thanks - I'm almost embarrassed to take it back to the dealership for investigation - before they agreed to take back the C250BE and exchange it for a C300 they replaced the right rear shock on the C250 twice in as much as the 3 000km travelled. I noticed the noise to a greater or lesser degree in the courtesy cars (all W205s) given to me while mine was in theatre. Luckily the C300 is in the 'lesser' category. To me the ride quality is two steps below that of my W 204 C350.
