C450 - Multimedia pkg or no?

I'm on the market for a C450, got it narrowed down to two cars:

1. Black/Red + Panorama roof + HUD but no Multimedia Package(but has the Garmin MAP Pilot)

2.Black/Black, no panorama roof + HUD + Multimedia Package

I really like the red interior, and the HUD is a must. I can live without the roof but it's nice, and the black interior is fine although I really want the red.

So it really narrows down to the multimedia package – meaning the GPS. How does the COMAND Navigation compare to the Garmin MAP Pilot? I have an ML350 with the COMAND Navi and have nothing to complain. Would I be disappointed with the Garmin, is it a bad choice?
I know the COMAND GPS shows its navigation instructions on the HUD, does it happen with the Garmin too? I've heard it does but always good to make sure.

The price difference in between the two is nearly nothing, like $300 or so. It really just comes to what is practical. I find myself using the GPS a lot when needed and hate using my phone because it drains the battery.

I have the Garmin and I really like it.. It even lets you speak to it if you use the steering wheel talk button.. If you don't need a hard drive or watch DVDs or need the larger screen the standard system is great..

I personally would not buy a MB car without the full Multi-Media package. The integration makes doing so many things easier and voice command does so much more.

How come? Isn't the COMAND System the same, except the Multimedia pkg gives you the GPS?

I never even knew I could watch DVDs and I don't use the Hard Drive (all I've ever saved were addresses of people in my GPS, and radio presets). How come do you need the multimedia package to get voice command if @Gungaslow just said we can use the voice command for the Garmin?

Anyway, what worries me the most is if the COMAND Navigation is better than the Garmin, or if they're both good. I love the COMAND but never tried the Garmin, how is it?

From reading many of the posts on this forum, people have often commented the Garmin is not as easy to use as the built Comand Navigation. And Voice Commands on Comand controls so much more. Such as phone and Radio. Finally, the 8.4" glass screen which comes with Multi-Media and Comand is just nicer looking, IMHO.

I've had zero luck with the Garmin voice navigation other than the command "Go home".

I wish I had the multimedia package. Without it, voice control only works with Garmin and is almost useless to me.

Too many to list
The garmin navi takes about 30 secs or so to load up. It's not the greatest integration, if I had to do it over again, I might opt for the multimedia package.

Also, today the navi froze. But this was the first time it has ever happened, hopefully it wouldnt happen again.

I feel like the only real advantage for me getting the Multimedia Package is the bigger, better-looking glass display which looks gorgeous. But I did drive around a loaner C300 with the normal screen and it doesn't look that bad. The CLA45 I test drove had the big screen which made it look like an entirely different car compared to the normal screen I've seen in countless CLA250s.

Back to the C-Classes: I've never used voice control, I just don't find it that useful to me. Fun to play around with, but I never really remember it's there and even if I do I just to me feel like it's one of the options I never will use. Isn't it true that on any Mercedes if you long-press the voice command button when your iPhone is connected via Bluetooth, that Siri will pop up? That works much better phone-wise, at least.

I have a burning desire for the panoramic roof (which I know I'll never use) and the red interior (which I could get on another car in a year or two ahead).
I'm not sure what to pick, really. I'm waiting on my salesperson to confirm availability of both cars and explain to me the Garmin/COMAND situation in his viewpoint, maybe if he has a car with it that I could play around with to see if I like it it'd be interesting.

Here's something to ponder. It's an option that once omitted, can't be added after the fact. I never used to use voice command much, but it's so much better integrated in my C than it was in my 2012 E350 that I find I used it a lot now.

This does not work without the multimedia package on my C300.

That is correct. Without Multi-Media you can not get Siri with a long hold on the voice button on the steering wheel. This among many other features if you don't get Multi-Media.

I was in a similar situation when purchasing my c300, I ended up going with the pano roof and red interior. You can do most of the things the multimedia package offers with your smartphone anyway, but there's no interior color or pano roof app.
