BATTERY KEY LOW? (keyless go system)
Hey everyone
So me and my dad both got a C class each, same spec. His one came 3 months after mine, but recently both cars once got into (keyless go system) say "key battery low" or along these lines. I thought by taking off the push to start button and plugging in my key whilst driving, I was charging it lol or would help. Clearly not. Ive asked mercedes and they said to change the battery. Simple answer. But what i dont understand is, both cars are not even 8 months old. And both keys need new batteries? Should I be just accepting this and change the batteries for the rest of my lease or should this come down to mercedes having maybe a fault??? I havnt seen this come up anywhere, maybe someone can shed some light for me.
Much appreciated.

They died early but who knows when they were originally installed? You should get a few years out of the replacements. I get mine at the grocery store, they're just watch batteries, a couple bucks each.

There have been countless threads here dealing with the poor battery life of the fobs. Unless put in standby mode (two clicks of the lock button) they are always live. If within 50' of the vehicles, they will remain active. Under normal conditions, expect to replace the batteries in less than a year. In some cases, it can drain in as little as three months.
I keep a good supply of the batteries on hand. Since it only takes a minute or so to swap them out, it's really just a minor nuisance. At least the car is smart enough to let you know before they are fully drained and inoperable.

I guess I cant complain when there is a cheap solution on a Mercedes lol. Just rather annoying. I will be keeping an eye out once replaced to see how long these last!

Do you have Keyless Go in your 2010 S Class? It's not the fob style, which makes the difference, but with the Keyless Go in the C Class, they fobs are constantly on (kind of like bluetooth on a cell phone always looking for bluetooth signals). And that's evidently why the batteries go faster.
