C450 Rattling noise

Hey guys,

Just picked up my 2016 C450 and i love it. One issue i am having is that sometimes i hear a slight rattling noise while driving. It is not consistent its on and off. Any advice?

Gungaslow 01-11-2016 10:34 AM

Front or back rattle?

*Knowledge* 01-11-2016 01:52 PM

Heard rattling in cabin too but realized it was the sunglasses in the overhead compartment. :D

kefking87 01-11-2016 02:49 PM

It is in the front, kind of by the instrument cluster/dash. its not too loud but loud enough for me to notice and get annoyed haha.

honestly I really don't know why they keep this stupid sunglass compartment there.. would much rather have something integrated lower for a phone or just get rid of the damb thing.

It took me a while, but I found out my cupholders were making noises if I had drinks in them  It's probably those springy things that are loose.

I have had my car in the shop no less than 4 times for rattles. It's the worst part about this car...

xgman 01-13-2016 01:20 PM

decades upon decades of r&d and still can't get rid of the rattles . . . . .

It's because the market demand changes/improvement at a lowest cost possible while satisfying designer's demands.

Also why a C class isn't price like a S class.

Yeah the C-class is such a cheap car sigh. MB should be ashamed to have rattles in their cars.

I have a rattle in the dashpad/instrument cluster area as well. Seems to be temperature related. When cold it will rattle relentlessly. As soon as the sun hits it on the way to the service department it stops. Also, if you press down on the pad when it's rattling it stops. I've had it in 3 times for service and they can't replicate/find the culprit. They've added much felt tape but every time the sun goes down, the rattle returns.

cleankutazn 02-08-2016 05:11 PM

When i'm driving on rough roads there seems to be rattles all over the center speaker area. Holding the cover doesn't seem to help. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where it is. This seems to be the only negative for the C450.

Welcome to the rattling club! Is it on deceleration? Does it sound like this:

Here is the thread for all the rattlers: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ine-noise.html

My car is going back to the shop tomorrow for the Power Steering recall, a couple long-term rattles which have gotten worse, and to officially put 'wind noise over mirrors' on the record so I can get acoustic glass.

The rattles are killing my experience with this car..

Popcrnchicken 02-09-2016 10:52 AM

Just got confirmation that this is the noise in my youtube video above.

TSB #LI03-10P060916
NHTSA ID #10058545
Date Announced: JULY 01 2015
Summary: XENTRY (DAIMLER): DUE TO UNFAVORABLE TOLERANCE OF PISTON WRIST PIN, RESULTING IN KNOCKING, CLATTERING/RATTLING NOISES, CAUSING AN ENLARGE END FLOAT CONNECTING ROD IN PISTON, FROM CRANK ASSEMBLY OF ENGINE WHEN COLD.

I didn't know there was a recall for that. Is this for the C450 because my car sometimes make a loud groaning noise when I'm making a u-turn in a parking lot.

I think thats normal. Its just the suspension groaning cuz our cars are still really new and underlubed. And the TSB is not for the 450 as you can see it is dated to July 2015, official release of C450 was End of september

Is it also normal for it to make that noise while reversing and turning the wheel quick? It seems to happen more often when i'm doing that.

One pair of my glasses makes noise in that compartment but the other one doesn't. The problem is they did not felt line the top of that compartment so if the folded glasses are just the right size, they can bounce enough in the compartment to cause the rattle.

My previous 2012 e350 had no storage for glasses, so rattles and all, I appreciate having somewhere to put my sunglasses in my c450.

I am getting a slight rattle on the passenger side when going over uneven roads...haven't pinpointed the noise but its there. Car is 1 week old.

Maritime 02-12-2016 12:25 PM

Take heart: the working of these components will likely sort out the sound. After a few months, mine is nearly silent.

C450 Rattling Noise

Just bought C450 AMG and loved the car except that annoying dashboard noise. It happens only on uneven road, in cooler temperatures, and slower speed. I am going to bring the car to the dealer for a checkup. If anyone owns the car and has this problem fixed, I will much appreciate if he or she can share the fixes. Thanks in advance.

Gungaslow 03-20-2016 04:57 PM

Mine was noisy at first but after 1000 miles most of the interior rattleseems to be gone all on its own.. I think just time and various temperature outside may have gotten all the parts to settle..

Sounds like you are suffering from the same rattle/buzz that my C450 has. Low speed rough road buzz when cold. Right above the instrument cluster. My car is currently in the shop for the 3rd or 4th time for a total of 10+ days. They've placed prescribed felt strips in strategic areas between dash and cluster and thought they had it licked the last time but the buzz has returned. Biggest problem is that it's temperature and road condition dependent. They are frustrated chasing it and have all but throw their hands up and said they can't fix what we can't hear. Please report your problem to your dealer maybe the factory will get involved then come up with a real fix and not just mask the problem. I don't see how the buzz can work itself out.

Same problem here... After 5 years driving a BMW F10 530d without any rattle, i'm pretty frustrated and angry!!!
