Buyback/Trade Assist Question

MBUSA agreed to buyback or do a trade assist on my vehicle. (My case manager said trade assist, but manager from dealership said the info he got was a buyback).

My question is what's the difference between those two? And what might be the best option for me if I am trying to get rid of current 2015 C300 and want a C43?

To my understanding, buyback is they buy back my vehicle and that's it, and I will have to do all the negotiation again with the dealer for a new car. Maybe some discounts from MBUSA, which makes it a trade assist.

And is MBUSA buyback/trade assist offer negotiable?

My dealer and I are still waiting for a response from MBUSA about what exactly they want to do...

Check your state laws regarding lemon car laws. Sounds like "trade assist" MB is going to deduct some off of your new car value. In my state, it depends on the number of problems and/or the nature of the problem. Here if it is a steering or brake issue; the company has a one shot deal to make it right if it is deemed it can cause an accident under normal driving conditions. I found this out by talking to the Atty. General office in my state and told him I have not had the car for a month, and the problem was noticed right away. My state's law is a replacement car, or a total refund including taxes, license, etc. It is my choice on what to do...not MB. I would check your state's law. If you think you are in the right...get some advice from an attorney. A few hundred bucks to him, might save you headaches and money in the long run, as I am sure the company and dealership will try to persuade you to do something that is cost beneficial to MB. I would not agree to anything if you get an offer, get in writing and tell them you are thinking about it and or seeking some legal advice before any agreement is made. Also before I sign off, even rental car charges when the car is in the shop can be charged back in my state.

Not to be political, but thank goodness to some politicians that make this possible for the little guy to be treated fairly in these cases!!!

  1. How were you notified about the buybacK?.
  2. Did you deal directly or arbitration?
  3. What documentation did you present, if any or did they obtain all the documentation internally (dealer)?

I just began my process, It will be at 60 days before I get my car back with new engine. I

I am also negotiating at least the same discount I got on the C300 to be given to me for the replacement C43 coupe, but that is between the dealership and me, regardless.

let us know what they say.

To answer your question. I contacted MBUSA directly, and a case manager notified me about the buyback. I did not hire an attorney. They got the documents from my dealership and I did not provide anything. So are they doing a trade assist for you or a buyback?

I have contacted several attorneys that deal with lemon law. But they said my case was hard to fight. So this is between me and MBUSA now. No attorney to back me up and thus there is probably very little room i can negotiate about the offer. I hope they can get a good offer for me.

Don't know, have not heard back from MBUSA. I don't have an attorney either.
