It's really nice. Great fidelity and detail. You'll love it.

I'd like just a little control over the EQ personally so the car is in the shop now getting the Audison digital signal processor installed and that will fix that. And Hushmat on all door interiors and front footwells, Focal 2 ways up front, tint everywhere, a new JL 10" sub, a JL sub amp, hard wired V1, and a set of BFG Comp TA non run flats. Luckily I already had most of the audio gear and the V1 that I pulled from the S before I gave it away/traded it.

That should do it I think.

Jesus man, that should be a pretty sick set up. I'm between the V1 and Escort Max2 or 360 myself right now...probably going to go with the Max2 to avoid the false alarms on the V1 and the price tag of the 360.

Well I don't have a 450 with Nappa so I had to do something to make the 300 special

I just sent the V1 into Valentine for an update that's supposed to filter out the blind spot detectors and other car generated stuff. We'll see. The car should be tight and quiet between the Hushmat and new tires. Gotta have as acoustically neutral a cabin as possible for good audio. I budgeted $3500 for the whole shebang. Or in S Class lingo, "pocket money".

(Not implying I'm a heavy hitter...$3500 hurts. Just that every time I turned around the S was in the shop for a four figure repair.)

I put mine on top of the ashtray - I have a Blackberry Passport, so it is very wide (width of a passport!) - fits perfectly in there and it's actually a bit snug so it won't move around... Unless I'm wearing a suit jacket, in that case it's in my breast pocket...

Why mess with factory tuned system? Clarity of the Burmester stuff for mids and highs is fantastic- plus all of the Burmester speakers are voice matched and designed to work together - adding other components of different brands and technology may make the system louder, but I'm not sure it will sound any better. Depends on what you're going for... The factory bass is very tight and accurate - doubt you'll get that from a JL sub...

Speculation on my part so take it for what it's worth...

I use a plastic door handle tray that I got for 15 dollars on Ebay. Its pretty handy especially if you don't like cluttering up your center console area.

That's sweet! This might be a really good solution. Thanks!

The issues with the Burmester in the C have to do with the physics, which make it difficult to get enough authority in the low end without simultaneously getting the mid bass range loose and boomy. That's because there are no proper woofers in the car. Instead, there are (7) 4" mid-range drivers (which is why the mids and highs are over-represented).

The footwell subwoofers then have to not only handle the lows that they're best suited for, but also play up well into the mid bass register to cover the gap up into where the 4' play. Hence it's difficult to get both percussive lows and clean mid bass out of the stock system.

In the Audison set up, we'll cut the bottom end out of the footwell sub's frequency range and feed them the mid bass range only, making them proper woofers instead of hybrid subs. They'll top out where the 4" mids come in and allow more precise control to keep them from getting too loose.

That then necessitated doing something to replace the lows we pulled out of the footwell subs, in the form of a separate subwoofer unit. With respect to speaker quality and voice matching, we're just replacing the front door drivers. I don't imagine the 4" Focals are dramatically different from the 4" Burmesters, but I suspect the Focal tweeters probably are. At $750 for the set they better be.

To voice match, since the Prima 8.9 has a powerful digital signal processor on board, I can configure any speaker in the car to blend with any other speaker in the car, since I'll have control over each speaker's level, band pass, time correction, phasing and equalization.

I don't imagine the system will be necessarily louder, although I do like it loud, but it will definitely be more accurate.
