W205 panoramic roof rear shade loose

The rear shade on the panorama roof seems to be loose and is making a rattle over rough roads.. When the shade is covering the window on the rear roof I can stick my finger in the beam that crosses and feel the roller that recoils the shade move and rattle almost like the screws that hold it to the roof are loose.. Is there any way to tighten them without having to remove the whole head liner? If anyone knows I'd rather do it myself than take it to the dealer if it's a easy job..and I'd like to check the roof rails for the panorama roof also

Tell us how it went when you ultimately take it back to the dealership...under warranty of course.

I've heard a number of people on this site complain about the sun shade being loose or hanging down.

The shade itself is fine... It's tight.. The problem is the wind up mechanism that attaches to the roof is loose.

Are you sure one of those German badges didn't fly off your hood and get lodged in the pano mechanism?

Access to pano shade requires removal of the entire roof trim. Best left with a dealer, that's what warranty is for! Thankfully other than a slight noise mine makes when moving (grinding which may well be normal) all is well.

In fact despite some initial niggles I'm going to find this car hard to hand back.

My panoramic roof is one of the few things which has been faultless so far..

I now expect it to burst into flames on the commute home tonight....

Make it the dealers problem... thats why they get to fleece us when we buy the cars..

My former W203 had the same issue. Had it fixed a week before the warranty ran out. As above the entire roof trim needs to be taken out. Not a cheap repair outside of warranty.

300SD. & GL450
Hello Everyone,
I have a similar problem with our '08 GL450. The "motherboard"/rear tail light control module in the right rear quarter panel was water-damaged back in January. The MB dealer determined that water entered through the rubber boot on the right tailgate hatch arm. We paid over $2,000 to replace the control module and the rubber boot. Well....it happened again last month. Water intrusion caused the control module to short out again. This time the dealer says that water entered through the rear plastic sunroof. They said that it has a crack. We're awaiting the estimate to replace the rear sunroof and install another control module....Ughh! I can't imagine what the bill will be. They wanted to charge me $1300 just to "leak test" the car. I was able to negotiate that down since they troubleshot the car the first time and told me it was the tailgate boot.
It looks like from reading this forum discussion that I may be able to make an insurance claim..?
I appreciate any further insight.... (fyi...I've been on the forum for years, but I had a username/password issue that caused me to start a new username...)
Best, TK
