Command Online vs Remote Online (Tethering)

Hi all, I've recently placed an order for a C250d AMG Premium Plus here in the UK for June 16 delivery. (Long wait).

I'd just like some clarification if possible with regards to the online services. I have the Premium Plus package which comes with Command Online and Remote Online.

In order to access the remote online features of the car and the command online features of the car such as live traffic etc, does my phone (iPhone 6 on Three Network) need to be tethered to the vehicle for data useage.

I am assuming that for the remote online, the (05U Remote Online Module) is always connected to MB through an onboard sim? Is this correct.

But for the command online features and MB apps, the car has to be connected to my phone? If this is the case, if I was to leave my phone at home would this mean live traffic updates would not come through during my drive? If anyone could clarify this it would be appreciated.

Live traffic doesn't require internet, the information comes via the GPS.

For Command online you can connect via bluetooth or wifi. I've connected my iPhone and the apps are pretty useless, other than weather. The browser is slow and clunky and I really have no idea why anyone would use ut.

Ah that makes sense of the live traffic. Thanks.

Yeah I guess your not really missing out as the apps are useless. I've heard mention of the sending POI's to the car. I assume you'd need to connect a data connection to download it to the command?

Do you know how the remote online stays connected? Is that via a dedicated sim to MB?

The POIs are part of the GPS?

The cars own connection serves traffic, remote unlocking and SOS.

Your phone needs to be tethered to use any apps (such as the send to car app that receives POIs sent from Mercedes Me (portal) or internet.

Wait until you have the car and all will become clear.

Thats actually not the case. The Live Traffic comes from your Sirius Radio subscription. You have to have the traffic package from Sirius to get live traffic updates on your Nav

Well I don't have Sirius and my GPS notifies me of lane closures, accidents and obstacles on the road...

When did you order your car? Is it an estate.

I ordered a C200 Prem Plus in February and my expected delivery date is 11 July.

man, at least in Europe your car tethers to a phone.

in the US we are stuck with 3g speeds on the car's internet. it's absolutelly hideous to use. i don't even bother with any of the apps, takes forever to load.

i wish they let you tether into your phone's internet, cannot understand in this day and age why they did not allow this option.

I agree. I wonder if there will be a way to get the EU firmware flashed so that we can do that too.

I ordered mine beginning of March. Expected by end of June or first week of July. It's a saloon. Yours?

The traffic system is country specific but the principle stays the same. In Australia the traffic system uses SUNA and the info is distributed through FM ground based transmitters (not satellite). The UK (where the OP is from) has RDS-TMC which is works on the same principle. US uses XM or Sirius satellite.
