Stock 19" tires : how long do they last/treadwear rating?

Hi all,

Having the wife's C450 delivered on 19" next week and debating whether I should get excess wear and tear protection to cover for bald tires at the end of lease. It's a 2 year lease and I plan on putting 30000km on these tires. She loves to push the car a bit, but her driving is 85% highways/freeways. Any chances I'll turn the car in with bald tires?

Edit : BMW would have charged us 900CAD for rock chips + 2 worn out tires on a 2.5 year lease... glad we got excess wear and tear for that.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

My C450 with the 19'' Pirellis need to me replaced in the front at 6500 miles (10500km roughly) and the rears have half miles. My driving is 30% spirited and 70% highway cruising. Others in this form also have complained about exessive tire wear.
Therefore I, personally, would not get the excess wear coverage because you're going to go through 1-2 sets through the life of your lease. If rock chips in your area are an issue, then I might consider it but most insurance companies repair or replace windshields under you're insurance policy.

EDIT: On my lease documentation all it says is that I have to return the car with at least 1/32 of thread and same tire. So the tires I switch out soon, I'll keep, and put back on at the end of the lease if needed.

On the tire itself you'll see a UTQG number, and that's the tread life rating. 300 would be about average for a high performance summer tire and it goes up as you get into the all season and grand tourer styles. Tread life on cars with staggered wheels is reduced by half as they can't be rotated.

Thanks, I was referring to bumper rock chips.. highway driving just killed the BMW's front bumper!

As to rock chips, according to their website anything that can be covered by a credit card is acceptable, anything that a credit card doesn't cover is considered excessive.
