Buying a used C400 a good idea?
Lemme know how deep the cut is when you hit your first brake change.

400-600 a wheel
I'm a new MB owner, so maybe I will be totally stunned by the cost of all things MB, but other than pad compound and slightly larger rotors (and maybe slightly different pad shape) There is 0 reason for the C450 brake job to be anything other than slightly more than a C300/C400 sport model. Both have 4 piston front, 1 piston rear rotors, both have one piece drilled front and plain rear rotors. I think the rotors are an inch bigger in front, not sure about the rear. If there is more than a minor price difference, it is only because MB jacked up the prices of the rotors because they can. We'll know soon when we get some good part numbers.
And, as we said before, there is no reason to get your brakes done at the dealer. It's an easy DIY job, but for those that don't want to, there are other options, and no impact to warranty.
EDIT: Good news/bad news. Did a quick search to see if we have any part numbers. Rock Auto has aftermarket pads and rotors (front I think) part numbers, but none available and no pricing yet. I'm sure we'll get something soon. So, for those wanting to save money, we'll have an aftermarket solution soon. The bad news is, these don't seem to cross reference to anything else other than the GLC, which means, if true, it's a new part and MB may very well jack up the prices for that reason alone. Read on this forum that the W204 one piece C63 rotors used to be $900 each and are now $170 each, so it is not unheard of for MB to jack up cost for no reason. We should have MB part numbers relatively soon, I would think.
