Burning DVD audio (help)

I'd like to make some audio DVD's from flac&cue files and I don't know (in case that's possible) if I have to burn them as data or as audio in order to be played in the car's dvd player. I'm using Nero and I'm not an expert so any help it'll be highly appreciated. I'd make some try outs, but I still don't have the car, has anyone tried to burn flacs+cues into a dvd? will it work for the comand dvd?

You'd basically be making data DVDs to store copies of FLAC files. The car would treat it like any other data source...SD, USB, CD Data etc.

In Windows, put a blank DVD in the drive. Open the DVD drive in Windows, drag or cut/paste the FLAC files onto the DVD window, finalize the disc and you're done.

Your FLAC files must not have a bit depth greater than 16 Bit to play in the car. Since FLAC copies of CD rips can get large, rather than DVD, get a compact USB drive with some room (1TB or greater) and just load them on there. No difference in playback quality, it's a file either way.

My car isn't seeing the Flac files. Are they supported?

Never tried FLAC specifically but I do know it reads MP3 and AAC files. You may need to down convert your FLAC files to get them to play from a data DVD. Burning them to an audio CD would probably work without down converting.

Have you actually burned a disk or are you using a flash drive or an sd card?

Not certain but I believe all sources...USB, SD, Disc...get processed in the same place by the same DAC, so in terms of a data file, if the format is supported than it would be playable from any of those sources.

I have a 64Gb SD card with close to 2,000 tunes I've acquired through the years. Quality is perfect and cards don't scratch or get damaged as discs.

Can they the DAC with a software release? Wondering if there will be possibilities down the road. I think Audi did that.

I have the 3D system, so it seems crazy that it wouldn't support HD audio files.

Doubtful. It's a chip. I think you'd need to down convert the hi res stuff possibly to FLAC at no greater than 44,100/16 bit.

The file sizes for hi res tracks at 256/24 192/24 96/24 are so massive they're not really suited for the car. A 3 minute song in MP3 is 3MB where a hi res version is 300MB.

The car will play DVD-A dvd audio discs and there are some authoring programs that will let you create audio DVD from FLAC files but I tried burning a disc with some 256k files and got a "disc unreadable" error.

I'll get a portable. My next challenge is getting around the lack of an aux port.

Yeah, Astel Kerns makes a decent portable. Not cheap though and you can't bypass the internal headphone amp if you go aux-in. It'll output Bluetooth audio but it chokes on the 256k material.

Yeah, I was looking at at that one, but using Bluetooth defeats the purpose as you said.

This has become a lot more complicated than anticipated...

Honestly, into the stock system, you'll probably be disappointed with hi res. I had a W 221 S Class with the stock harman system (identical speakers to the w205 Burmester, just more of them and more power).

I love the hi res stuff played back on my home system (Peachtree Nova 125 tube with asynchronous 24 Bit USB DAC, JRiver MediaCenter DSP player) but in the car on the Astel via aux in it sounded terrible. It seemed to just exacerbate the system's flaws. Ended up selling the AK.

Yeah, I'm giving it up and sticking with CD's. I have the 3D sound system and really like it, so I wanted to try the high res.

Yeah I have it too. It's basically an extra
3 little four inch speakers and delay. I do use the "3D" mode though. It raises the soundstage, although it can also add to the already overwhelming brightness.
