Burmester settings: what works best for you?
Hi all,
Just picked up my C450 last night.
I have been playing around with the settings... wondering what you all use. I mainly listen to edm, trance, top 40, late 90s/2000s rap.
I have right now:
Surround: On
Treble: 6
Mid: 6
Base: 4
Curious what you all use and find best. Thanks!

The bass is so boomy and overworked I can't stand to have it above +1. If anything a mid cut of -2 is helpful in reducing some of that boominess. +4 on treble. This is with the a flat setting on the phone EQ. If you're using some preprogrammed EQ then who knows. Oh, and surround completely off.

The system is inherently deficient, so while you might get certain material sounding good at moderate volume, when you crank it up the mix collapses into a soup of shrill mids and boomy bass.
The speakers themselves are 1)incredibly cheap and flimsy and 2)the exact same garbage they put in the non Burmester cars, just more of them.
Also, there are no proper mid bass woofers. Everything is either a 4" midrange or an 8" sub, which leaves a huge hole in the frequency range. The 4" can't play low at all, so the 8" have to play way up into the midrange, which they can't do without getting loose and sloppy.
Adding volume to get the bass to play also boosts the mids, making them overly bright and harsh.
Phone EQ can help. Also if your files are local and on an IPhone, EQu by Elephant Candy on the App Store allows you to create vehicle specific EQ curves and will vastly increase your enjoyment of the car's audio system.
Me, I had my C300 for about two weeks before it was in the shop getting an Audison DSP amp, Focal speakers and a JL sub box.

My 2016 Maybach has the 3D Burmeister sound system and it is by far the best sound system I have ever herd and I spent 4000+ on my home system. We are getting ready to order a GTC and you beter believe we are going for the upgrade Burmeister in the GTC. It might not be the system in the Maybach but dam it has to sound good.

I've driven several C Class sedans and find that each car sounds best with different settings. I don’t know why, but they all seem different. My own car is very heavy on bass, and I find I need to run the bass flat or even at a minus point to avoid booming. On mine, I also find Surround improves the sound significantly. The last loaner I had, a 2018 sedan, was better with bass at +3 and Surround off. I don't think consistency is one of the Burmester's strong points.

Just picked up my 2018 sedan with Burmester (the "front bass" thing will take some getting used to). I've noticed I don't get much sound from the rear speakers, it's almost like sitting in front of a boom box. I have surround on for all seats and balance/fade set to 0. Is this normal?

Thanks for the reply. I can do that but I want to make sure the relative lack of sound from the rear speakers is normal or if there's something wrong with the amp or head unit. This is my third C-class; my last two both had Harman Kardon and the sound was immersive with fade and balance set to default. The Burmester in my newest car projects sound from the front which seems odd. I have to lean back with my head over the seat to hear anything from the rear door or deck speakers.

I just drove a 18' C300 without the Burmiester all last week and it sounded much worse than my 15' w/ Burmiester.

I’ve occasionally noticed with certain songs at higher volumes bass seems to cut-out, I then have to lower volume slightly to bring the bass back.
Is there a setting or option I should use to correct this?
I have a 2017 C43.

As I said, I've never seen this roll off in my oem system.
Give them a call and keep us posted. Now I am curious.

Yup, I do have Burmester Surround option as part of Premium 3 Package on my ‘17 C43.
So far I’ve only noticed it two or three times, I purchased my CPO w205 2mo ago.
I’m an audiophile and had to that option. What’s the DSP?

mid 3
treble 5
i find if you increase the mid it takes the edge off of the bass but i do wish they had gone along the H&K route
i'm in an e43 amg nice system but not great.
