Has anyone here tried replacing the 7" screen with the 8.4" one?

I've seen both screens on ebay and they seem to have the same connectors....

7"

8.4"

I would probably do the swap if I knew it would work

You need to do some basic checks first, such as the screen resolutions and resolution of the video outs - would be a shame if you fitted it and found the the displayed area was the same size, but just in the middle of a larger screen....

I noticed a difference with the blue square plug, one appears to have a single row of pins whilst the other has two rows. The smaller one has a raised bezel but the actual display size on the larger COMAND screen, although flush seems to have a very wide border and the difference between the two appears minimal.

after looking at all the auctions on ebay, its a 4 x 2 , 8 pin block on both (the 2 i linked its kind of hard to see, but there are other listings).

i ordered a C43 without the nav, but the one thing i dont like about that is the 7" is the raised bezel on the screen but I didn't want to pay $3k for a nav system I didnt want just to get rid of it. Car hasn't even arrived, so I guess I may have to be the guinea pig if I can find an 8" screen for $300-400, some of these sellers have return policies with restocking fees, but I'd be willing to eat $50 or something if it didnt work.

Hey, just wondering if you ever made the swap. 99% sure you'd have to swap the screens AND control unit for it to work properly, but am interested to hear your experience since i want to do the same.

It has been done. There are posts previously. Expensive to do if you are going to convert to command.

If you do screen only, the resolution won't match.

I swapped my 7" monitor for the 8.4. It does fit and looks so much better... HOWEVER, it still only projects the smaller image and it's off centered to the right side of the new monitor. It's "ok", not too bad, because I do like the look of the 8.4 without that cheesy plastic bezel.

Let me know how yours is working for you!! (if you've made the swap already).

Thanks!

No, there is no solution. You have to use the screen the car came with, or just live with the images off-center.

There are also aftermarket 10.2 screens. (Why not bigger?)

Hey, did you have to have anything reprogrammed when you swapped the screen. I’m trying to replace my screen with OEM screen but not sure if dealership needs to reprogram it. I would guess it’s just a display making it kind of plug and play. Was this the case with your OEM 8.4?
