COMAND 10.25" Screen Upgrades
#126
Hi Everyone,
Sorry to those who asked me questions, I've been AFK but I was TDY for a little bit.
It seems like others have answered all the questions that were asked of me.
For those worried about being plug and play the answer is Yes and Kinda.
1. Yes it is plug and play, just unscrew and unplug your old screen and plug and screw this one.
2. If you want extra features (the only one I've noticed so far is notifying your door is open when you back up) than you'll have to remove the center dash and also plug one cable in the unit. This is also technically plug and play but requires more time and effort. I did it in about 30 minutes with no help.
The hardest part honestly was just fishing the cable in a neat way.
For everyone asking MM questions I think someone is going to have to guinea pig it lol. From my non MM vantage point I don't necessarily think it'd be worth it but for non MM I think it's a must do upgrade.
As some have reported the setting for the screen size does seem to work as the unit is "looking" for a higher res image but crashes when it can't find it (for us non MM folks)
Those asking about miracast, I haven't done it yet (just too much going on) but like huyuci pointed out without hdmi it would probably look pretty crappy. I'm still going to explore a couple of things and I'll report back if I make any progress.
I hope I've caught up with all of the questions. Let me know if you need a video or something from me.

8 inches or 12.25 inches?
EDIT: Dude who posted above and linked to the install manual shows that it's 12.3 inches? Is that a typo? Looks the same as the 10.25 inch one....?
Cross post from here: (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6917765)
I'm between this 8 inch upgrade and the 10.25 inch (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-upgrades.html), and well, I guess the 12.3 inch one above, if it is indeed different from the 10.25 incher.
Comparison:
8 incher:
Touchscreen
840x480 resolution (a slight bump from stock resolution, which I believe is 800x480)
$496 (cheapest I could find, please post if you see it cheaper anywhere)
__________________________________________________ ___________
10.25 incher:
Touchscreen
Same res as stock (but lower than the 8 inch) 800x480 (as far as im aware it maintains stock resolution for the 7 inch side of the screen, and adds on side screen)
$590
I really like the larger screen area but the 8 inch might ironically win out because its too small to incorporate a smaller side screen. Sorry, but the side screen on the 10.25 unit is just fugly, looks out of place, and cheap. If there was a way to hide it I might consider getting it, but then you'd either have a large part of the screen that was just black or have the original screen stretched which wouldnt look right (not even sure this could be done, considering the control/head unit puts out the resolution for the screen).
What I don't get is the 840x480 for the 8 inch. If stock is 800x480, is that not the only option available for its resolution output? Or is the head unit capable of putting out other resolutions as it seems here?
Both screens have the option of "original" which shows stock menus, etc, ad have their own navi's. I plan on installing a wifi/miracast dongle to get google maps on my android phone, as its far superior looking IMO.
That being said, a few questions:
1. If you guys who have bought the screen could show us what Google Maps looks like, it would be appreciated.
2. IS there in fact a way to hide the side screen on the 10.25 inch?
3. Are there any wifi dongles which are better than others? Also are wifi dongles and miracast dongles the same thing?
4. Im also thinking of installing a DTV tuner, and while researching came across this (http://www.firebird-systems.com/grap...dmt9.4.m.shtml). See the quote below for why this one claims to be superior to other DTV receivers....
"The DMT9.4 is not a simple terrestrial receiver. It has a powerful Doppler Effect* (See explanation below) correcting feature to prevent lose of TV signal in moving cars. This problem is typical to many car TV tuners. Consequently these "regular" terrestrial tuners can be used only when the car is stopped. On the other hand: the DMT9.4 deliver excellent digital pictures while the car is moving. The correction mechanism is effective in car speed of up to 250 km/h (155 mph, about 135 Knots).
Why this tuner? Not every 12V low priced tuner is a real "Car TV Tuner": Most of them have a "regular" ATSC tuner and will work only while the car is stopped. There will be no reception as the car starts moving again because the tuner is not ATSC-M/H compliant."
Truth or BS?

I didn't measure it, but from the look of it, it's more likely to be 12 inches instead of 10.5.
The side screen can be handy in many cases. For example, if you're running Navigation on the main screen, you can still adjust radio and many other things.
The steps to run miracast and connect your phone can be cumbersome. So, running Google Map isn't as glamorous as you might think.
Same thing with TV. It's illegal to have it on while driving. So, unless you enjoy looking behind your rearview mirror for cops, the idea of watching TV while driving only seems exciting because it's something that's forbidden.

I can deal without the tv, but I would like to see how google map looks, preferably in action with a video. When you say it's cumbersome, you mean the first time you set it up, or always?

Each time you'd have to turn on miracast, then turn on your phone's wifi to connect to it. Then you'd have to run the app to miracast the screen. Maybe it's just me being lazy, but it's too much for me to go thru all that just for navigation. I prefer running Igo straight from the unit.

Hello everybody,
I have a C300 2016 MB and the idea of having a 10.25” screen is really cool.
I have purchased the screen from ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/BENZ-W205-C-...VXjFya&vxp=mtr and it did arrive in no time.
The installation was straight forward, just 2 screws. I thought of posting pictures of the procedure but the members were generous with what they provided.
I have the following queries on the operation:
1. On the entertainment page on the right the Temperature and the Fan speed isn't reflecting the true status. In post #71 JafG commented “So i figured out to get the system to display the temp I had to plug a bridge cable (included) into the DVD unit”.
I Have connected the bridge cable (the two black male and female connectors) and then plugged the main connector to the display, but no change.
2. On the left side the CAR INFOR Speedometer is not working and the time is 00:00. In post #63 huyuci commented “The speedopener works. You'd just need to connect the GPS antenna to the back of the monitor. If you have Igo, it'll will also work as navigation”.
I have connected the GPS antenna and the GPS iGO works but the speedometer still doesn’t!!!
Could you guys please explain how to figure these out. It could be my understanding!

I don't know how you connected the cables (supplied with the LCD), but one end goes into the back of the LCD and the other end goes to a slot in a wire harness that plugs into the back of the head unit. This requires opening the center dashboard. I don't know if JafG still has this problem after connecting this cable. If he still does, then I'd say it's because the car is 2016 (software changed). But most likely that cable helps interface with the Canbus.

Use the torx driver, T5, I think. You won't be able to see it. You just have to feel it. Removing the screws is easy as it still stay with the screen harness. It's putting in the screws after you install the screen that is a bit tricky. You can't see where you should put it. I lost a screw because of that. It fell into the black hole
