Just curious to see how many on this forum have personally had an engine on their own W205 diagnosed with the wrist pin defect.

Yes, but as it is a lease I'm not going to get it fixed.

2017 C43 Sedan
April 2015 delivery. Wrist pin issue. Engine rebuilt took only 7 days as I had them ordered the parts ahead of time. This was done 2-3 weeks ago.

Took the car back and I asked them to do alignment because steering was off to the right.

Then last week, I had gasoline leaking in the engine so I could smell it all over the car. Fuel injector was leaking and they took the engine out and replaced all the seals again. - I was pretty sure something was about to happen when I decided to have the engine rebuilt. There's always going to be something else when they attempted fix one thing.

Anyway, this engine rebuild was driving MBUSA to buy back my car after 53 days out of service and 21 times in the shop. Honestly, I am pretty happy that I brought it in for the repair. Otherwise, I don't know when they would make this decision. Now I have to talk to the dealer about a C43 deal - hope it's not too bad. It's going to be a separate transaction than the buyback, so I guess it's on me now.

I am very concerned about this kind of collateral damage from the wrist pin repair. (My C300 is in the shop currently for this.) Do you know if they rebalanced your C300's engine as part of the process?

How did your C43 turn out in comparison, in terms of engine dependability and overall quality?

surely the part that's too small would cause the imbalance and the fix make the balance ok?

I believe the factory balancing is done with the components actually installed -- whether they are the correct ones or not. So if new (correct) components replacing old (incorrect) ones are a different weight -- even by a few grams -- the overall engine balance will be off. However, if MB truly means that "best or nothing" slogan, the replacement pins will be the same weight even though they aren't the same size, which would eliminate the problem. Here's hoping.
