2008 C300 4matic transmission

I have only 69K miles on my car and I've followed the maintenance plan to a T. However, recently I began hearing a noise when accelorating. Two mechanics told me they thought it was the front differential, but Mercedes told me it's the transmission that needs to be replaced to the tune of $7K. It may be something smaller, but I'm told that by the time they take it apart and search for something smaller to replace it's already more cost effective to replace the whole thing. (That seems to be the recommendation with all repairs.)

Doesn't make sense to me that I'd be replacing a transmission at 69K miles. I'm searching the forum for similar problems. Anyone else have a similar problem?

My first benz was an 08 c300 4matic. Had it for 6 years and 53k miles. no transmission issues. Many other issues but all covered under the factory warranty
