Winter wheels issue

Hi all,

my first post on this forum. Hiphip...

I am receicing my new W205 end of November. Since it is winter time in Belgium, I will have to buy winter tyres and rims. At first I wanted to buy genuine Mercedes rims (22R), but while looking on the internet I saw a couple of wheels that suit me better. Only thing is... Mercedes recommends 18x7.5J for winter wheels, and the ones I saw are 18x8J. Do you think that'll be a problem?
If not, what ET value should I take? Is 45 ok?
I will put Michelin PA4 MO tyres on it, what size would you recommend with these 18x8J rims?

Thanks,
FJ23

18x8 will not be a problem as long as your offsets are properly considered. If you had a C450, you need to be ultra-careful to make sure the offset is around +30 or less because of the C450's hand-me-down steering rack from the C63 (which is wider than other W205's)... You can still put a 225/45R18 tire on an 8 inch wide rim, so technically from a traction/pavement contact patch perspective, there is no need to change...

The rims I want are 8Jx18 112/5 66,6 axle ET45. Can you confirm there wont be a problem in the front?

So you have 8,5 in the front with 48 ET... then your wheels are closer to the inside then the ones I propose, or am I wrong? Do you still have enough space?

I would buy 225/45 R18 tyres.

Thanks,
FJ1

Hi FJ1!
That's right, no problem with the space inside.
This rim is made for Mercedes with these dimensions, see the German "certificate"
I have same tire size you plan to buy.

It seems I need a ring between the rim and the axle, do you think that is something that I'd better avoid? Thanks, and nice car ;-)
Mine will be brilliant blue. I think I'll buy black rims for winter. I hope that works with the brilliant blue. Wait and see...

And can you put on snow chains?
