Rough 2nd Gear In My 2016 C450 AMG
#26
The dealership hooked up their scanning device to the car, said they found no faults, and discovered no updates for the transmission or engine management system for my VIN #...but they did perform a "Adaptive" reset and carried out an "Adaptive Drive". As for mileage, I've put on about 1,000 miles since the reset.
I would say no...shift points seem to be at the same RPMs.

If it is working fine, it likely will.
Faults are never found for this condition.

Is there any way to confirm the software version on that stuff? Know what to ask, inform the tech about when taking the car in? will a UDB system pull that info out for consumer review?

Here is what I know: your dealer's service manager (not adviser) should demand a ptss from Germany, and that a technical specialist draft the patch for your car, based on the symptoms you describe. Once the patch is sent to your dealer, it is installed and only then does a tech take out your car, with an external computer attached, and the patch is modified in real time.
If that has not happened, your dealer will know it, or can find out by contacting a technical specialist in Germany. It is my understanding that all service MANAGERS know how to contact these guys at will.
If you are told anything else, check to see if there is a tube blowing smoke up your **** (glyster).

Hey everyone, I've been obsessing over this infamous 2nd gear issue for over 3 months now. Here's what I found out so far and the workarounds I've had to go through:
Vechile in question: 2015 C400 W205 AMG package 7 speed , 50,000 km on the odometer
Symptoms:
The main issue here and one that should be clearly defined is "It's not a shifting issue", this is evident as the jolt/nudge happens at 17km/h in 2nd gear just before the 3rd gear shifting point.
Vechile in question: 2015 C400 W205 AMG package 7 speed , 50,000 km on the odometer
Symptoms:
- The issue I am experiencing is not a "shifting" issue
- The jolt/nudge always happens in the morning or when I first turn on the car to use for the first time that day
- After 30min of driving, the jolt does not occur or is very soft
- I like to drive in E or C mode mostly and this means the transmission will always start in 2nd gear
- I apply gradual gas and keep the rpms around 1000 when the car moves from a stop
- The "jolt/nudge" happens at exactly 17km/h
- The rpm needle will spike when the jolt/nudge occurs (~200-500rpm)
- I have been able to consistently reproduce this issue in all modes so long as I start in 2nd gear
- I created an Individual setting on the agility select menu as follows:
Engine: Sport , AC on Comfort - Car rolls from 1st gear and shifts very smoothly without feeling the jolt/judge
- After 30min of driving, I switch to E or C and do not experience this issue at all until the next morning
- Shop foreman came out with me on a test ride and was able to see this issue happen (car was left at dealer the night before)
- Shop foreman said this is part of the character of the C400/W205
- I was told not to worry about it as it will not cause any future issues
- Shop was not able to reproduce this issue on their own (mind you the car was probably adequately warmed up by then)
- I have recorded over 10 videos over 2 weeks showing the speedometer, selected mode and gear (showing the spike in rpm) -> car going back for the 4th time with my findings in mind
- Shop found no faults and MB does not have any fixes or patches as no fault is found
- I was told that this could be related to a high amount of torque which misses the shifting point (more noticeable in the C400s, but will impact the C300s as well)
- Reprogram the shifting point for the 2nd gear to take place earlier, just before 17km/h so that the torque is carried over to the 3rd gear -> Going to try and suggest that to the dealer (fingers crossed)
The main issue here and one that should be clearly defined is "It's not a shifting issue", this is evident as the jolt/nudge happens at 17km/h in 2nd gear just before the 3rd gear shifting point.

My 2016 C450 had this issued and it was fixed. Thorn hill had the early complaints and tried replacing parts. I insisted my service Manager, not Adviser, call AMG Germany and talk to the Head Kraut in Charge. It was repaired with a custom software patch and a 20 mile drive with two techs, tuning the patch. It is now flawless.
@CFG , does you car shift before 17km/h now? What's the patch do exactly?

I wrote this and even created a video. What your dealership did was the first step to correct the synchro of the transmission. For me that did not work and even the MB scanner showed no faults. At this time, MB recorded the information and had to send it to AMG in Germany.
The car still has the little jerking but I don't feel or recognize it unless I look for it. For those that don't have the AMG tuned transmissions, there issue is more related to the adaptive features of their transmission.
PS..you can see the gears that you are in when you are in your AMG screen.
