C300 2016 can't control media interface volume anymore? Help please?

Just got the car, New about 3 months ago. Absolutely love it. I usually listen to music using the media interface with a wire for my iPhone because the Bluetooth sound is horrendous. So yesterday as I connected normally, it was all fine until I decided to use a new music app on my iPhone(7), this app seemed to have caused some trouble because now I can't control the volume anymore, on that app and on any music app. This is so weird lol. It's connecting fine and everything but can't control the volume from the steering wheel or the cabinet, and I really don't want to use Bluetooth. Any help? I tried using the other media interface outlet but still nothing.

You'd need a really good ear to discern between a Bluetooth Audio connection vs a docked connection. BT audio bears no relation to the crappy sound from BT phone. It's a full range two channel system. There's a little compression (the effective bit rate is 357 kbs) but for digital audio files that are typically 320kbs MP3 or 256kbs AAC you're probably not going to notice a degradation.

I use a hard dock mainly to get the cover art to display on COMAND, and it does sound fractionally better, but don't avoid BT over audio quality.

The sound via lightning cable(iPhone) is much better compared to BT audio. It's definitely noticeable, IMO.

Yeah, I'm not saying there's no difference, but it's not vast. Wired sounds more open and the highs aren't overly bright like they can be via BT on my IPhone 6.

To the OP, try doing a hard reset of the audio system by depressing the eject button until the system reboots.

honestly, the difference is minuscule.

specially since the sound system (even burmester) ain't even that great to begin with.

i mainly listen to spotify, as i'm too lazy to transfer music with itunes (i hate itunes >.<). it sounds good enough over bluetooth.

i do wish that a docked connection would allow me to use any programs for music or video. but command only allows music stored on the phone to play.

Anyone know if a hard connection would allow me to listen to spotify, pandora or youtube?

It should launch and play any app via BT or hard dock. You'd just need to launch and control it from the phone itself. But if you use COMAND to search for song/artist/playlist etc it will cause the phone to default back to the Apple Music player.

Did you hold it down until the COMAND screen shut down and rebooted? It takes around 10 seconds.

1st, you have to make sure that the Volume on your phone is maximized to the max. Then you can use Volume control of your car. But if the volume is reduced on your phone (while plugged in), then there is no way to increase it, using your car controls.

2nd: your car may need the software update... which can be checked by any MB dealer... and updated at no charge, since it's under the warranty.

Yea I made sure my phone volume is at max. Is there a way to double check if my car needs a software update before making the trip to the dealer?

I have exactly the same problem...

I've tried updating iOS, replacing the lightning cable, restarting everything multiple times, A REPLACEMENT IPHONE (with software restored from backup).. nothing works.

My conclusion: it's a software related issue with the iPhone. I've tried my friend's iPhone 7 and it works fine (I have a 6S).

Next step: factory reset on the iPhone and re-add apps manually...

I think I know the exact fix for your problem! Try syncing at least 1 song to your music library on iTunes. Or just download a free song from the iTunes store on your phone. They key is make sure the iPhone default Music app isn't empty. As long as it has at least 1 track, you'll be able to control the volume. 99% sure this will work since my friend's phone has the same issue, but mine does not and we experimented with adding music to his library and it worked

Yes, had the same issue with my iPod touch when using Tidal. Adding one song to the music library fixed it. Although, from time to time the Music app starts by default instead of Tidal. Don't know if that can be fixed... And there's still no jailbreak for iOS 10.1.

this worked first time!! Been driving around for a month without volume control. Read your idea and remembered I’d deleted that freebie u2 album around the same time . Just reloaded one crappy song into iTunes and bingo, full volume control again. Buy that man a beer!!
