C200 auto rough shift update...
So like many with the c200/300 7g auto box, one of my biggest gripes and reasons I would not keep the car was the terrible jerky auto box shift especially from D1 to D2 and the then rather abrupt D2 to D3 moments later.
The car is now just over 10K miles and I've used comfort mode for most of the time as eco has been very rough to shift and sport holds gears too long for comfortable daily driving.
Recently while driving I thought I'd try ECO again for a while and frankly it's transformed the shifts. While I can't claim they're like the smooth as butter DCT I have in the BMW I can say that it's finally become a pleasure to drive. Yes ECO does numb the car but is perfectly fine for stop start city driving which is most of my use of this car. If I need anything else I can always go back to comfort or sport.
I thought I'd share this in case it helped anyone else who finds these shifts jerky.
Im hopeful in time that the car will smooth out a little more on comfort mode also at which point I'd reconsider my stance on selling at year 3.
i remember MB saying it can take thousands of miles for adaptation to be as good as it can be. I thought it BS as my BMW adapts within a handful of miles to my driving style but perhaps MB were, I hate to say it, being truthful.

Have to agree the Z4 DCT is a very good box, the 9 speed in the newer C models is pretty good though, in comfort mode it pulls away from standing in 2nd gear most of the time. The Sport and Sport+ modes are more aggressive, not quite as good at auto changes as the BMW DCT, but keep you in the right gear when you want to push on and get the most out of the engine.

My C200 used to jerk from 1st to 2nd a lot and occasionally from 2nd to 3rd.
Had a service a couple of weeeks ago and I asked them to check for a gearbox update because of the bad shifts.
Well they updated it, or did something, and it hasn't done it once since I got it back! Never driven a BMW so can't compare the gearboxes but I am fairly impressed at how smooth the gears change now.

Mines done it since new and its only just stopped after the gearbox update so if anyone is still having this problem I would highly recommend that you go and have it updated at the dealership because its worked a treat!

if it is an update I'd be tempted to take it in again to see what happens. You seem uncertain what they did tho and I've had adaptation reset etc which improved it for a while before the poor shifts returned.

In any case, it is still far better than it was and can hardly feel the changes now

Do you happen to have the work order or the summary of work performed? It could make it easier for the rest of us to pinpoint exactly what we want done at the dealership.

But as I said, the service guy said that there was a gearbox update available and that it had been updated. Changes are very smooth now in all gears but if it reverts back to being jerky I will update as ManiacGT said the poor shifts returned.

Scratch that then... box is back to jerking and snatching through low gears no matter the mode. No apparent reason. No difference in weather or driving patterns. Just as I thought it might be worth keeping...

Sucks to hear that. I am taking my car to the dealership next week to have them check on everything again. Luckily I only have that "******" from 2nd to 3rd gear so I can hopefully live with it, but it is not what you would expect from a Mercedes.
